Did not know where to put this post but thought general comments would do.  I never seem to see much mentioned about this place.

I just wanted to say what a wonderful lunch we had at Foros Taverna in Old Perithia last week.  It was so good that we went back again on Sunday for our last lunch.  Tomas is such a gentle man with a really laid back attitude and his wife is lovely too.  The peace and quiet up there is a joy to behold.  It reminded me of what tavernas used to be like in the old days.  They only cook about 5 or 6 portions of everything and when its gone, its gone!  We were lucky enough to try the bourdeto, lamb and the briam.  Briam is not something I would have thought of trying, but Tomas recommended it as it was just out of the oven and it was delicious.

Just thought I would mention it.

Hi Hattie/Jan?

We go to Corfu in 31 days time and we're going to visit Old Perithia.  We are hiring a car and I'm driving.  What's the road like driving up there?  The food sounds delicious and I can't wait to go back to Corfu.

Hi Fee, If you want to discover the real Corfu, the best map for doing that is available here.

There are several roads to Old Perithia, the one through New Perithia and Loutses is good tarmac all the way, the others are mountain tracks.  If you have a suitable vehicle, it's worth exploring some of these other tracks, and you won't get lost with the map.

Hi Stephan

I have already got your map - got it last year and forgot to take my driving licence with me (stresses of work before I went!)  However, I already have my map and driving licence sitting on the table waiting to be packed away.  I was just wondering what the road was like.  I do enjoy the "off road" driving, through the mountain tracks but I want go to Old Perithia and to the top of Mount Pantokrator.  My other half is a taxi driver and swears he's not driving on holiday.

I also want to drive to Agni again.  Done it about 3 years ago and was a nervous wreck driving down the hill.  Can't believe no-one ever mentions how steep the drive down is.  Only thing is, I can't have a drink to steady my nerves before the drive back up!

I don't care if I get lost when driving as it's easy enough to get back on to a main road.

CAN'T WAIT TILL CORFU

Please do not think I am being picky, but the road through New Perithia and Loutses is not good tarmac the whole way.  I would say that approx. 3/4  miles from the village it becomes unmade and rough.  Not rough enough to be a problem but rough all the same.

I'm hiring a vehicle and going to Old Perithia and Mt Pantokrator in October - and I've got Mapman's Map (which is superb!)

Fee, we could be up there about the same time so I'll look out for you. You certainly need to look out for me!!!!!!!! (nothing wrong with my driving!! )

The road to Old Perithia is much improved on what it used to be a few years ago.   Twisty road with tight bends.

Last year we drove to and from Mt Pantokrator and I was a nervous wreck by the time we reached the bottom.  The worst of the road is captured on our video for posterity, complete with appropriate sound effects, i.e. shrieks of fear and sighs of relief.  Compared to this, the road to Agni was a doddle!

Yes it is the same one and I can recommend it too. Tomas is very  friendly and his wife is a fabulous cook. Totally traditional food and if you are not sure what you can just let Tomas recommend the 'dish of the day' . Although everything is good.
