Hi Josepipe

I looked into the Ryan Air Stanstead to Bari route as a possible option. The flight landed at 11:30am, and the ferry left about 17:00 (or maybe 19:00). It would have made it a 24hour trip from home to corfu, and we decided it was too much for just a weeks holiday. Would be a great option for 10days - 2 weeks though

Hello all,

Well here i go again promoting KWIK travel and a wonderfully friendly and helpful lady called Karen who always manages to get us in resorts and hotels that nobody else can.  She usually finds us separte flights and accomodation that works for us at the price, resort and the flight times we want.  She takes away all the stress of searching yourself.  Just get a few brochures in at home to look through as she gives you some hotel or location options.   We have used MEDHOTEL quite a lot and you can usually have a look at the rooms and surroundings on the internet before you book.    Probably shouldn't promote on a public site but what the hell:

Karen is a KWIK travel on 0870 499 3011 or karend@kwiktravel.com

Happy Holiday hunting!

Hi everyone

Ive done the D I Y Holiday a few times now, once you get the first one out of the way its easy.I arrange my own flights, email several apartment complexes then i proceed onto holiday watchdog for reviews. I get a taxi from the airport to my destination ( after checking prices so that i dont get ripped off ) No more coaches full of holiday makers, We always seemed to be the last ones to be dropped off!!!! No more T Os for me.  Get straight to your accomodation, crack open your first beer!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Try it out for yourselves, save a fortune. Trust me with the information you have on this site, you cant really go wrong !!! If the TOs cant promote Corfu, then we will !!

Hi Dawn,

That is what I like to see, a positive attitude. Having received information from the hotel you are going to, and looking at the flights from the link you gave, I can understand why you decide to do it yourself. I was absolutely amazed and the prices.

Unless the TOs have a change of view, this is the way forward for us.

Happy Hols, and Best Wishes.

I nearly always piece together a holiday off the internet.  That way it's tailor made for my specific needs, and it's usually cheaper. We often book a car for the duration of our stay through  a cheapest flights.co.uk connection.  We pick it up at the airport and drop it off on departure day. When you work out taxi fares to and from the airport and 3 days car hire in resort, it usually works out favourably and you've got the convenience of having transport.

We also get discounts for airport parking through them too.

I read somewhere that the main tour operators were pushing tourism in the more eastern european countries like Croatia as they pay less for the rooms.

Corfu's tourism may drop a bit then level off as people who like Greece will find a way to get there whatever happens.  Other places just don't measure up.

I hope someday we can also book independent from the TO's but the problem is that there are only a few flights a week from Holland to Corfu. And the tickets cost almost 2/3 of the total package (sometimes even more). So as long as there ar no cheap flights for us, we depend on the TO's, even though we love to get rid of them.

Yvonne

hi there, this is a reply for sue, at the top post, i was at Eriva apartments and asked if i could privatly book, Spiros said all the bookings were out of his hands as the tour ops dealt with all that. I take it then, that some other places will book independantly?  V

Hi All

D I Y holidays..... always have a go first, booked to corfu via travel agent on a bargin bucket holiday for £170 for the week self catering. This morning however, just booked holiday to Ibiza a week later for four of us direct with hotel and easy jet it costs us £11.99 to fly out and £33.49 return. and 22 Euros half aboard pp per night at hotel. They requrie no deposit as we went last year , gave us choice of floor and which room we wanted  and what side of the hotel we wanted to stay. I realise there is difficutly with flights to corfu but i suggest you give it a go first before going to a TO. When I told the TO about Ibiza she said they were the middle men and to always check indepentantly first, hence not naming TO in case of getting the poor girl into trouble. So now fly home from sidari on the 5th Oct  four days of work and fly out to Ibiza on 11th Oct, oh what a life lucky me, by the sounds of it i will need a well earned rest after partying in sidari.

lots of love

flopsy xx (tired just thinking about it...Bliss)

I had a long conversation with a man in Kassiopi, and I think he's a bright gay; he said: In Kassiopi there are prox 5000 beds for rent but this season there are only 2200 booked. Reason will be as he said; TO's are giving so low prises fore the beds that the owners say no, we will put our beds out for rent by our self, but the main problem is that the TO's don't sell flights only-so the result will be that holsmakers are going elsewhere.

This is politic, even from the gov in greese. they are punishing the resorts for not paying anought tax and upgrade the apts and studios.

its a no way street.

as we in Norway suffer from the lack af flights this year ( only one flight pr week) we are awaiting the TO's to find a way to give flights only tickets next year.

Interesting post.  Just to clear up a quick point though.  I think you mean that "he is a bright guy" - not "a bright gay" ! One has to be careful with that word - especially if your contact reads these posts - LOL

Kind Regards
