Is there anyone who lives near Lincoln who would be able to do a dance demonstration with me at my Daughters school on Wednesday 14th March at 1.30.  I need someone to do the arms on the shoulders dance (I can never remember the name, messa exo, 3 to the left, stop, football etc, then a bit of Zorba!)  My daughters class (6 year olds!!) are learning all about Greece, and she has told the school I can Greek dance (which I can) but I need that all important person stood next to me???!!!

I would also need to borrow a CD as the school does not have the music!

Is there anybody out there?

Messa Exo (In Out) is a term used for many Greek dances.

I suspect that you are refering to Hassapiko, or Sirtaki. Performed for the tourists in bars and tavernas.

These are stylised dances involving a mixture of steps and coriographed by each teacher to suit their class. Each taverna group will perform the dance slightly differently, depending on the leaders inclination to show off.

The two forms that I know originate in Athens, and although similar to each other are danced to and fit different Hassapico tunes.

Bob.

I've got some greek CD's but not sure how I could get them to you by 14th march, I'm not to hot on all this downloading stuff, sorry! AND not quite sure which song you mean!  Sure someone must know a site where you can get the songs from.

Hi Wendy and Bob, yes messa exo, is inside out, and that is shown in the steps that we do, I know all the steps but just could never remember the name of the dance, but it is hassipico, thanks!  Ive been dancing it for 20 years but only ever call it by one name of a song I like!  (well I used to be blonde!)

Anyway, the search is off, my greek friend here in Lincoln has finally agreed to dance with me, even tho she does not really know all the steps.  And so she should do it, her daughter goes to the same school.

Thanks Blue chairs for the loan of the music, but her mum has got loads and it will be easier to get!

Thanks again.  My only worry now is how to teach it to 20 six year olds!  Oh the fun we are going to have!
