Corfu

since going to Corfu for the first time in 2003 I too just have to keep going back, this site is certainly great for sharing the 'CorfuBug' with others, it helps just a little to know you are not alone.

This year i made my first purchase of a greek music CD, it just takes me back right there!

 And like everyone else I always have to book my return trip ASAP!

Hi folks.

I've had two separate weeks in Corfu this summer (came from 8 days ago from the last one) and I was just wondering, what tips do people find work best when trying to cope with Corfu withdrawal symptoms?!

Apart from having nagged my husband to agree dates to book asap for next year's return, and having stocked up on Fage yoghurts, eating horiatiki most days, I've got the Ouzo bottle to look at and some nice Aghios Gordios pictures stuck up round the house, and looking in on here regularly, what else can I do?!

Thanks in advance chaps:)

Pam (Truro, Cornwall)

Hiya Pam

I cope by knowing I go back every year,I have made such great friends there really...lol,,One just has to stick at what you want in life,I have been going to Corfu 20 years and my hubby of 5 years is realizing what a great place it is and the people are truly wonderful.

Hmm....I will.....live there before I die there

Sorry Corfu cal

Bookshelf - according to dictionary "Projecting slab of rigid material which can be hung on a wall or a board in a cabinet on which books etc stand"! For me this is one piece of wood about 5 foot in length completely full of books such as:    It's All Greek to Me, A House in Corfu, GreekWalls/Curfu Sunset, The Summer of My Greek Taverna, The Greek for Love, On a Greek Island, Eurydice Street (A Place in Athens), Greek-o-File, Greek Language Courses/Dictionaries/Phrase books. A bit of a theme going on here!!!

Here's how I managed the "astral traveling"  that my soul used to do every time I returned to New York after a Corfu vacation.  The symptom: I used to awake in the middle of the night  and think I was in Corfu, and of course I became disoriented because I didn't recognise my room! It was scary and lasted for weeks after each trip.) My soul longed to be back on my beloved island in the Ionian Sea.  But alas, my body was in New York. It really was a spiritual struggle. At first I just thought I was dreaming, but discovered that my astral body had a "mind" of its own and would leave me in bed and wander off to find it's way back to Greece....

The solution: I pasted a world map on the wall right next to my bed so that  my astral body could find it's way back to me while I slept. IT WORKED.  I WAS  NEVER DISORIENTED AFTER THAT. I hope this doesn't sound too far out for most of you, but I imagine some of you have experienced similar  journeys.  These nightly excursions stopped occuring after my fifth trip. That was right after I promised myself that I will relocate some time down the road when the timing is right, and it seems to have fulfilled my soul's wish to just be there, where , when Homer the Iliad, he said "Corfu is where God had a love affair with the planet Earth".   That's all I know. Peace, love and serenity, Suzi

Phew ...........  I'm a little relieved it was just a different thought process. I have been pondering what the problems was with "bookshelf" and decided that I am now so behind the times that no-one has even heard of the word and I should get rid of it immediately! I can stop worrying where I would put my books and go back to the major problem of the original post.

Have been to Leeds to meet up with my holiday group which was lovely but caused my home-sickness for Corfu to build up again so I'm going to watch a couple of episodes of My Family and Other Animals (original BBC series) which I've just bought.

 How will i cope until i go

 To that beautiful island again

 maybe i,ll just go with the flow

 And dream of it til then

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 No Mythos or sun for a while
 No sea , or greek food.
 I,ll get out my trusty photo file
 And look at Corfu and brood
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  So friends on here please take heed

  All through the winter chills

  Our Corfu fix we sure do need

  To stop the aches and ills

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Post on here all the time
 Give one another pleasure
 Then none of us will pine
 For our dear Corfu treasure
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A little ditty to cheer you up !!
