Hi, we went to Zante in may of this year, we stayed in Tsilivi and it was lovely the people were great really friendly,so much to say we are going back next May to Kalamaki, the airport is as everyone reports the arrivals is brand new and departures leaves a lot to be desired, i spent the last half of our hols worrying about the return to the airport from what i had been told by people but honestly its not anywhere near what you expect- yes you do have to queue oustside but its undercover and if we can manage it with 3 kids then anyone can it didnt spoil anything for us we had a wonderful holiday and cant wait to go back,

We went to Zante 2 years ago - allocation on arrival with Olympic and spent 1 week in Tsillivi and 1 week in Laganas, I think Tsilivi is a more family style resort than Laganas, but we enjoyed both as it was May so no crowds of rowdy 18-30's.  The airport is much improved (it now has a camopy outside so you have shade if you have to queue there) but it is at the end of the day a Greek airport - think of it as part of life's rich tapestry!!  Our friends are in Kalimaki with a 14month old and a 7 year old at the moment so I will post again when I hear their opinions - enjoy, chuck your watch in the drawer on arrival and relax

Wholeheartedly agree with LindaK.  We took our 13 year old on our first Greek holiday some years ago.  Stayed around the bay from Lagana which was our closest resort... Talk about lock up your daughters!  Dead during the day and like Soho at night!  The beach was lovely and we loved Zante though despite Lagana and we would go back but to another resort. The boat trip was nice but long, and the sea rough as has been mentioned. Apparently Tsilivi is nice.  There is always one resort on a greek island you should avoid if you dont like the 18-130 type holidays!  Each island has its own "black spot" and the rest of the island is normally lovely.  We would avoid Kavos or perhaps even Sidari in Corfu as that is not the sort of place we like, but each to their own.

I took my two daughters (18 and 14) to Zante for a week the last week in  August and we stayed at Kalamaki which I would consider a  family resort. We stayed at the Hotel Exotica but if I went back I would book the hotel opposite, the Venus Hotel. I went to have a look round it while we were there and picked up leaflet in reception. You can book direct, they have their own website. They will collect and return you to the airport free of charge and they operate a loyalty scheme which gets you a ten per cent reduction on anything you spend at the hotel, and any future holidays. When you have been there for a total of four weeks, say over a couple of years, they offer you a free week in May or October. They also have a few  suites with two bedrooms, lounge and a garden area with table and chairs at a reasonable rate.

The resort is only ten euros by taxi from the airport so if anyone is booking a package and have to choose whether to pay for transfers I wouldn't bother.

I walked down the beach to Laganas which takes about 35 minutes. Not my cup of tea but it might have been twenty five years ago!

The airport is pretty much as everyone has said but it wouldn't stop me returning.

I spoke to some people who first went there 14 years ago. They said how much it had changed and that they use to have to use torches to get back to the apartment at night as none of 'the strip' was there.  I asked where they were walking back from and they said if you went past the strip to the mini roundabout and turned right that was where they used to and still went in the evenings. I walked down there it only took about ten minutes and it was lovely. I think it must have been where the original village was and it was completely different from 'the strip'. Quite a lot of nice places to eat and not as in your face as the main strip of bars etc. I think thats what people meant who had been there a few years working who said that it was becoming spoilt it used to be lovely.

I didn't walk down there till my last day but if I went back I would certainly spend a few evenings down that end.

I found the meals and drinks to be reasonable and thought  it was cheaper than where we stay in Corfu which is Gouvia.

Thanks for all your replys we have booked to go to Laganas first 2 weeks in june next year as some friends are also going there. My first holiday abroad was in Sidari this year and i loved it  but i wanted to try somewhere else so i could compare but i will certainly be returning to Corfu again and i really understand why so many people love it. I just wish i could have more holidays in a year never mind we can dream!!!
