for anybody coming to corfu i would just like to stress the importance of taking care in the sun! Today i decided to sit outside for a short while and fell asleep in the sun, im now suffering!!!  painful sunburn , dizziness and generally feeling very ill!!  i was out only for about an hour AND I WAS WEARING FACTOR 15!!!   very glad im not working yet , not only because i feel ill but i also look like a tomato!   just thought id share this with everyone as sunstroke+sunburn can really spoil your holidays.  I WILL NOT BE SUNBATHING TOMORROW!

I spoke to my daughter today in Corfu and she told me that when she went shopping in town yesterday her arms got burned. And that was just for a short while. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Michhelaki,

Firstly, i do hope you are feeling better shortly, secondly, what a good topic to talk about as the holidays are getting nearer. You must all remember that you should always wear a high protection factor sun cream, and re-apply religiously, drink plenty of water too, also remember that you do not just get burned when the sun is out!!!! even if it is overcast and windy you can get badly burned, so beware.

And not just on Corfu.  My children having done a sponsored walk around the school field today look decidedly pink in the face.  I never thought about suncream because it never occurred to me that it might be that hot!

Hope you feel better soon Michelaki,

Julia

thanks everyone!

feeling much better today , just a bit sore. quite right about water , last summer i drank 4 large bottles in 5 hours everyday when working and my job in a mini market isnt exactly difficult. the dizziness yesterday was much worse than the sunburn so dehydration was obviously the cause.  i wont forget to water myself again!

PS. i always used to get prickly heat in the sun in the uk but never ever here.....anyone explain that?

Hi - hope you are feeling better

This reminds me of our first visit in 1985.  A group of lads fell asleep on the beech for almost a whole day.  Afterwards they had to keep in doors for the rest of the first week and were ultimately repatriated - at their own cost as their insurance didn't cover sunburn!!

At this moment in time it is 18 degrees in corfu!!

In leeds it's 22!!!!!!

All the neighbours are out cutting grass/washing cars.

Make the most of it all you in the Uk, cos you all know this is the only sun we get here LOL

michhelaki - you get no sympathy from me I'm afraid - you live here and should know better

Steve - Lucky so-and-so LOL  Yeah it may have been 18 degrees here but I haven't seen the sun all day !  It's been overcast and we have just had a shower in Acharavi.  Thunder forecast for Sunday and I see the UK has a good forecast for Sunday   Never mind, good weather for the bar business !

Remember all - a tan acquired slowly will last longest.  Use the high stuff, especially at the start of the holiday.  I really feel for some folk I see that get burned badly and have their hols spoilt - not fair - especially when it's so easy to avoid.  Oh - and drink plenty of water during the day - you can switch to "evening water" come sundown -  these days it comes from a brown bottle with a name label.  I think it beging with A and ends with L and there may be "mste" in the middle !

I remember when my brother got married - on the first day of his honeymoon, he fell asleep on the beach and got very badly burnt.  Of course, this meant that the usual honeymoon frolics were definitely off the cards!!

He then spent the next 2 years trying to live down the embarrassment as my sister-in-law made sure that all of his drinking buddies knew about it.
