A high-speed (unsinkable) boats race will take place in Corfu on Saturday, June 17. The race is organised from Corfu’s Unsinkable Boats Club and it will take place on Garitsa Bay. There will be boats and crews from all over Greece, including Thodoris Critikos, who is the Greek champion.

There will be two categories, one for sport boats (speeds up to 80 mph) and tourist boats (not so fast). There will be also sea-ski show, sea-rescue demonstration and flying boats (seaplanes) show.

The program will be as follows:

11:00        Crews briefing

12:00        Offshore race start

17:00        Flying boat show

18:00        Timing race

18:30        Triangle race – tourist category

19:15        Triangle race – sport category

19:30        Sea ski – Parachute – Flying boats – Seaplane Shows

20:30        Bestowal presentation

Entrance is free. Be there!

Hi John and Hilary!

The same event took place again last year and I think that it runs every year. This race belongs to the greek championship of race-boats.

A spectacular Formula-1 race takes place in Corfu every year also. (Not cars... boats Formula 1.) It is a race belonging to the Formula 1 Powerboat Racing World Championship.

See this http://www.f1boat.com/index.shtml

Hi

Yes, it does take place each year - it's really quite scary being out there on a yacht whilst the race is taking place! - although maybe I'm thinking of the F1 event?

Hi MartynG

this race is not a F1 race but a Greek Championship's one. I'm not sure, but I'm afraid that there is not a F1 race this year in Corfu.

Hi Manos ,

Thanks for the link .

Martyn ,

Typically Greek , allowing civilian craft to be on the water at the same time as an event like this !! It reminded me of the time we moored up at the end of the runway at the airport............where else in the world could you sit within a stones throw of an international airports runway touchdown area , without being moved on or even arrested by the military ??

Regards.....J&H
