As with you Chris we done the all inclusive bit , dominican republic /crete/thailand  and will never do it again ,part of my hoiliday is finding great places to eat and while I appreciate that with children it can be a blessing ,the restrictions and watching people get 5 drinks before the bar shuts at 12 midnight and hey "we dont want to pay for anything do we " attitude  and then watch them stumble back to appartments and look like death in the morning  this is not my idea of a great holiday .I only hope it doesnt spread to far AROUND THE ISLAND

I fear if the movement to all inclusive increases, the taverna and bar owners will suffer severely. There are some who are already feeling the pinch and I fear for the future. It would be a sad day if we lost a lot of these places as the villages and resorts would tend to be, not quiet, but dead and lifeless. Ok maybe I am being depressing, but do you want to see your favouite taverna go down? I think not.

Charlie.

Yassou file's....

On the other side of the coin so to speak.....Personally we do not think the all inclusive places are doing any good at all for Corfu ....and we believe we are not on our own, plenty other people - English and especially Greek here feel same way!

The Island is not big enough to have all inclusive places here.....the businesses - tavernas, restaurants, pool / apartment bars and also tourist shops, etc rely totally on tourism... and if the all inclusive keeps them on site, then these businesses cannot survive!

They need as many tourists as possible to keep Corfu going! Like Uncle Sam use to say ....WE NEED YOU!

Well Spoken Suz - I wonder - Don't these ALL INC places need some sort of operators licence or permission from the Greel Tourist Authoiities - Woulnd't it just be better to refuse that permision, or am I completely wrong.  Why dont we all just see the light here - All Inc are about one thing and one thing only - Keeping the profits in the wallets of th big TO's and nowt else !

I wouldn't go ALL INC if the company paid ME!!!   Like many of you have already said, a great part of the holiday is picking out new places to eat and drink, and making more and more friends along the way.    And for the record, as it is all so reasonably priced in Corfu anyway, why limit yourself??

love going selfcatering myself no set times for meals ect, best part of holiday is going out trying different places anyway, and lets face it those of us who have been to the  island many times have made some very good friends with the local traverna and restaurant owners, who always make you feel very wellcome and never seem to forget a face.one of the reasons why so many people keep going back.

I doubt I would ever go All Inclusive - no matter where in the world I was going.  A friend of mine recently paid around £2000 for a one week all inclusive holiday for herself, her mother and her small son to Turkey.  Im afraid I told her in no uncertain terms that she was mad - Turkey is still very inexpensive to eat out (you can do it for around £10-£15 for a two course meal with drinks) - and theres only so much pop and ice cream a child can stuff down their necks!  At the same time she went, we paid less than £500 for two weeks b&b in Icmeler, Turkey, and that was for two people.

However, I know that some people like All Inclusive.  After all, they are only one step further along the road from Half Board.  Lots of people go HB, drink in the hotel bar, and still never venture further afield than the hotel gates, god alone knows why.  We always think that part of the fun of a holiday is deciding where to eat and drink each night.  And then once you have chosen that - the fun of all the delicious sounding possibilities on the menu!  Yum!

It seems to me that the world is made up of two kinds of people.  Those who make their own decisions, and those who like the decisions to be taken out of their hands.   The latter ones seem to be the ones who always have something to complain about though, don't they?
