If we all love Corfu so much. Remember it is Greece not America. Where is the progress in making it less like Corfu and more like America? If you want to change the culture of Corfu to say English or American why not just stay in England, go to Blackpool or go to America. Please leave Corfu to the people who love Corfu as it is. But then I'm straight from the sticks of southern Corfu. Also as an afterthought. Corfu has its own Macdonalds in the form of Goodys in Corfu town. Much better burgers, chips in real pot bowls and you can even have a beer. Now thats progress.

I'm not sure why you seem to think that McDonalds are alien to modern Greek culture. There are now around 50 branches throughout Greece - several of them in areas where there is little tourism, so they must obviously be used predominantly by Greeks themselves.
But how far should we extend your argument that Corfu should remain unblemished? Should it go back to some golden period in the 90s, or 80s or 70s and then be forced to remain frozen in time? Of course, to take this argument to its extreme, all the hotels should be closed, as should the airport, the locals should have their cars and trucks replaced by donkeys - and all bottles of non-Corfiot drink should be poured away. Of course, any ex-pat residents would have to leave as well, because they wouldn't be allowed to buy a property of their own on the island. The problem is that there wouldn't be any tourists around to see any of this "old Greece" as it wouldn't actually be Greece - it would still be being run by the Venetians!!
