You know near the port carpark there is a large white taverna down at the sea edge-well when we were there in September they were filming there-could that be the port scene? Must say I was disappointed with the production. Lovely to see Cofu but it didn't capture the magic and innocence that the book has in truck loads.

Overall I was disappointed with the  adaptation but it was enjoyable enough to watch on a cold Tuesday evening.

My wonderful children, though, actually bought me the DVD set of the original BBC series for Christmas.    They found it at a school christmas fair.  I think they paid a pound.  How much of a bargain is that!!  Who in their right minds would chuck that out!

Gosh - didn't even know it was available on DVD - my copy is a much played video tape!

One touching little story - my eldest stepson, who at 20 has been in  trouble with the police more times than I care to count and who thinks he is  "well hard " actually asked me if I could tape it for him.....there's some hope for him yet, as I know he loved watching the 1987 series and perhaps remembers our first holidays together in Roda when he was only 8 or 9. (cue emoticon for misty-eyed and emotional)

Just watched it, really enjoyed it, but did find myself explaining the story as it went along to the rest of the family, agree, you did need to have read the book to understand what was happening.  Have just had a lot of my thoughts answered in these threads tho, we were trying to work out the different places used for filming, so thanks for that.

Now sorting out booking for next year, spured us on!!

Quite enjoyed it myself, for the scenery if nothing else, reminded me of my hols in sept when we sat on the beach watching them filming, I was in a bikini and nearly melted, the cast and crew all looked terribly hot they had loads of layers on. I've read the book and must admit my interpretation of the characters was totally different, imagined the turkish boyfriend to be a right hunk for one but alas he wasn't.

The BBC series was never released on DVD - people have copied the videos.

It is available on e-bay but from 40 UKP upwards!

I remember it as charming and faithful - and it had a jolly theme tune that I can't quite recall!
