supposedly the beaches in kavos are not as good as some! but can anybody suggest any beaches near or around prefably a cab journey away from kavos?  as we are going for 2 weeks and 2 weeks is a long time to be stuck round the pool!!

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

cheers

Hi Heidi (or should that be 'heidi hi'. Wasn't that a TV program years ago?).

The beaches around Kavos looked OK to me but it is only a short taxi ride to Ag Gordis where there is a very good beach with lots of golden sand.

When we visited Kavos last year we found a sandy beach within walking distance of the town. Walk through the town (away from the Corfu Town end) once on the outskirts of Kavos you come to a "T" junction take the road to the right (left takes you back into Kavos) follow the road around the bend until you see a taverna on the right hand side. Just before this taverna there is a turn off to the right. Take this road and follow it all the way up for about a mile and there is a turn off to the right, this takes you down a steep track (sometimes a sign is there saying beach) take this track for about half a mile till you come to the sandy beach. Not usually many people there and you with have to take bottled water with you.

Kavos beach can be a little disappointing, but the view from the beach out over the sea is lovely! The beach is only narrow and backs on to some of the hotels and bars. Its a sandy beach and the sea is lovely and clear so you may be pleasantly surprised!

Im off in July so would love to try a trip to Ag Gordis. do I just hail a taxi and ask to be taken there?? How much approx would the fare be? Or can I catch a bus?

Many thanks!

Hiya

Depends where on the beach you go - we were there a few weeks ago and some areas get cleaned up more than others - a lot of woody/seaweed type stuff gets washed up and sits just above the tideline - also the the nearer the town you are, the more likely you are to encounter last nights beer bottles etc. We were at the Kolouris Apartments and the beach was kept spotless in that area. Once you get into the sea, water is spotless so not problem with cooling off. I cant give directions cos all I know is we turned right when we got to the beach, crossed a wee stream and then the beach started being kept cleaner.

hi

my first visit to kavos was 25 tears ago when the beaches were perfect.. now alas because of the ferry terminal in leffkimmi its is less tidal

some beautiful quite beaches (dont know youre age and as a gentleman i wont ask)go into leffkimi find the brige over the river and at the kavos side of the river abouta mile walk youle find a lovely beach but only 1 taverna there.not sure if its open everyday at the moment but in july it is .. a little advice avoid sundays its very full but in the week great ...

If you want to find another great beach thats just about allowing tourism try vitalades  great beach and good food too at baratos .. greek village prices too as not to many find it .. if you go to Baratos tell him Brian from manchester sent you >> this is my personal favourite... next beach down is Santra babara try the santa babera hotel for lunch ..little more touristy and geting to be well known with the kavos taxi drivers (they get a free drink there ) but well worth a visit... a little further is aghios georgios south (St george )...very touristy but great beaches  evening dinner try the Balcony here
