need some help please, been to kefalonia 4 times now and need a change , want to try corfu can anybody tell me of a quiet ie no thumping clubs, nice bars, very close to a not over crowded beach, good tavernas is that to much to ask for, thanks

Don't know if Boukari may be too quiet for you (did spend an afternoon there this year were very chilled out, but too quiet to stay there for a holiday for us). We love Agios Gordios on the west coast, I'm sure Nigel will give you the website to view. We like it because it's just right for us i.e. not too busy, not too quiet. Has a lovely sandy beach with tavernas along the boardwalk (no cars so you don't have to eat carbon dioxide with your meal). You just watch the amazing sunsets! There are plenty of supermarkets, bakery, everyone is very friendly, that's why we go year after year. Plenty of independent accommodation and a couple of hotels. Taxi transfers can be arranged from and to airport (about 20-25 mins away). There is a car hire place and regular buses to Corfu Town. Also Sinarades Travel to book tours which are cheaper than the TO tours apparently, but we book car hire.

There are lots of places but I love the south St George south is a family resort with a lovely beach and lots of bars /tavernas but not thumping then going down you have Marathias,perivoli(santa barbara) and vitalades all very quite with lovely sandy beaches and a few tavernas but very greek you also have petrati whiching is a fishing village but with a few tavernas as well St George is more of a resort where as the others are very much greek villages with lovely beaches and greek tavernas you wont find much English food in any of them

Hi tackou, you are spot on with your suggestions that area of Corfu is well Greek and we Love it, we have been friends with a Greek family in Perivoli for 12 years they dont speak any English so every year its brill. trying to use our limited Greek, bring on 2010. lorac.

In my opinionyou would have to try anywhere between Barbati and Ag Stefanos on the North East Coast. The contrast between the sea views and the mountains is fantastic and there are many traditional tavernas. The thumping bars and discos are south of Barbati. Kassiopi next one up from Ag Stefanos is also very commercial apart from down by the harbour which is very nice.

I agree with Tackou, Marathia has just a few tavernas, which do tend to close down early in the evening, but the beach is fabulous and if you go to Kastro Monduvalis Taverna the food there is home made. See www.corfuinfo.eu (Sorry I do not know how to do those clicky things)
