I couldn't agree more! Over the years I've suffered from mozzies and other "attack-insects". I also tried everything imagineable - and some that weren't! - to be bite-free. Last time on Corfu I didn't have one bite! It did make a huge difference to my visit. What did I take?
Vitamin B1 started 2 weeks before I left and then throughout my stay: Boots 'Repel Extra strength -tropical' lotion applied liberally morning and evening - and any other time you fancy! Lastly but by no means least I consumed platefuls of Tzatziki the yoghurt, cucumber and garlic appetiser!
Remember though that what worked for me may not do so for you!

Hi everyone, just joined the forum, but been coming to Corfu for 6 yrs, always staying in Roda. I used to get bitten terribly but since using Avon "skin so soft" shower gel & dry oil spray (use the soft & fresh) & jungle formula mossie roll on never had one

While in mexico last week we done our useual trip into the yucatan jungle...To one of the farms that have been given to mexicans to run by there goverment..And to see how they farm there bit of land cut out in the jungle....They also have a senoty that helps there income...A fresh water senoty is either a cave or an open water afaire...So there are mozzies to be found there(in there thousends)Big black ones that fly around like B52 bommers...So we have to put on an eco frienly repelent to keep them at bay...While looking around the farm i ask the mexican farmer what he use to keep the mozzies from biteing him..Not knowing what i ment he ask me to tell our tour guide to tell him in spanish...Ah Si he said...Goat Pee Pee... he said...
So keira in anwser to your question....(how to keep mozzies at bay) ...Chris
One other thing while in the jungle there are trees that you must not tutch...As they have a black sap that runs down them...It is very high in toxins...The one good thing is always near by is a a tree with the antidope next door to it.....

Eat plenty of Tzatziki every day 2 or 3 times a day and that will keep them at bay.Works every time for me!
I have now been in Acharavi for 12 days out of 14 and have NO mosquitoes bites at all.
The rest of my family have all been bitten except me as they haven't been eating tzatziki like I have.
Hope this helps

Alec if you read my post you will also see I pay tribute to that dish as well. In fact I seem to think it was YOU that gave me the idea in the first place? Yes?
I do hope you are enjoying yourself in Acharavi. probably even more so given that you've got no bites!!!

I agree with David 1, take vitamin B1 for approx a month before you go. Also when showering before you go out at night use "Original Source" Lemon & tea tree shower gel, this works wonders.

Courtesy of some advice on these pages, I took garlic tablets for four week before going to Corfu last year, and just had one bite during my fortnight in September.
It may have been a coincidence, but I should add on moving to Spain in March, I continued to take the odourless garlic tablets, and have avoided any problems here. Roll on Paleo in September!! By the way, my partner had horrendous problems with mozzie bites over the years, but no such trouble last year after taking the pills as well!! Perhaps we were lucky!

When I went to Corfu 2 years ago I started taking 'vitamin B1' tablets 2 weeks before we went. I continued with the tablets whilst I was there and was not affected by the mozzies.
I also used the Avon 'Skin so soft' before going out and Jungle Formula plug in liquid during the night .
This might seem to be a bit of a overkill but it certainly worked.
This might not work for everyone but all the advice you can get , the better.
If you are going to wear a shell suit make sure it is in the right area.
Happy holidaying!!!

No-one has so far mentioned the Marmite cure! Works in the same way as vit B1 tablets but if you like Marmite it's no hardship to eat some each day. Last year, Marmite and Avon SSS worked for me with a little added help around the ankles with Boots insect repellant wipes (the grey ones). I also use the Original Source Lemon shower gel.If you do get bitten then the hydrocortisone cream and/or tiger balm work well.
