Many thanks for the advise. My friends just got back and advised it was quite expensive in Greece. I have been lots before, but not for a couple of years.
I imagine the cost seems high because of the exchange rate, but forgetting money, Corfu is still my frav Island in Greece.

elizajay is right - it only adds up to a few cents per pound, so unless there is a dramatic rise in the next 4 weeks I am not expecting to get much more than the 1.07 to the £! I think the best way is to treat the £ and € as equal! That way we won't be disappointed.

Exactly Sooz, thats how we looked at it......it's really not an issue unless you are changing thousands of pounds!
(One winter we were in Spain for New Year, and there was a huge huge queue outside on of the exchanges, it was right round the block.........we had to giggle , all the old dears who spend the winter in Spain had heard that it was a fraction lower at this exchange.....so were spending hours queing to get an extra couple of cents LOL)

I am also travelling to Sidari on 3rd July, I will take some euro's for first day or so and sterling travellers cheques for the rest. working on Nigel's calculation if you are changing £1000 you would get an extra 36 euros in Corfu. Rather in my pocket than the banks.

I just wish I was one of those who didn't have to worry to much about the exchange rate.

Sorry Bruce,I didnt mean my post to imply that I dont have to worry about exchange rates (I definitley do have to watch the pennies like most people) ....what I was trying to say is that for the small amount we are talking about here, I am not going to stress if the next resort along is giving a cent or two more to the pound....I am my hols after all, and stress over things is what I do at home not in our lovely Corfu.

We have an abbey visa card and was planning to use it at ATM's to get cash. Santander have announced to celebrate the change of name they will not be charging customers any fees for using the visa card abroad in the months of June and July this year.
Does anyone know if the larger rate example from Nationwide applies to visa withdrawels also?

Hi I went into First Choice Travel today, to check the exchange rate, they said they are doing the same as last year and paying over the highest rate you can find in the high street. This worked well for me last year so looks like I shall use them again. Only 18 sleeps to go...................tickets should come soon.
