Hi all, I was just looking into getting a E111 completed online and it's telling me it has changed to a EHIC Card and that you have to pay for it? I thought it was free, does anyone know if you can get it free? Can you get it from post office? Thanks xxx

Yes you can get the form from the post office (I work there). You send the form off and they send you a card. Can all the Agni forum check their cards because they have an expiry date on them. But please don't think these an insurance document as they are not you can get treatment, but please don't go without travel insurance because finding places to accept them is hard, plus they do not cover cancellations, missed flights, lost luggege etc etc.

Follow the link Nigel gave you. Any site that says you have to pay for the card is a scam! Also, as in the previous post, get travel insurance! The card entitles you to the same treatment as a local would get from their version of the NHS. This is NOT the same as at home. I have been in the unfortunate position of being hospitalised twice in Greece, over the years. If we hadn't been covered by travel insurance, it would have cost THOUSANDS!! Hopefully you'll never have to claim, but it's NEVER worth taking the risk! Enjoy. Moyra

Check out Gill B's topic called: Ehic which was posted on 17th March, 2009. It's located on the Travel to Greece Forum - General Holiday Questions. Whatever you do - don't be tempted to pay!

Don't pay!! Its free. Use the link that Nige has given or go to your local post office.
As Moyra says don't forget your travel insurance as well. The EHIC covers you for equivalent of NHS treatment here but if you see a local doctor in resort chances are they will be private so you will need to use your insurance.
