Yes marymouse!
Thats exactly what happens.....
Check in the 5kg of hand luggage if they are strict enough to check it (personally never happened to us )
And then , I have done this myself......
buy perfume, alcohol, smellies etc from the duty free, and then add on the mags and three bottles of water from WHSmith
no one ever checks how much i have bought.....mags books and water weigh heavy!!!!!

and . . . . going o portugal my friend bought some tweezers in boots and they then travelled in her hand luggage, now if they had been there at check in they would have been confiscated!!!
it all seems really silly to me!
But going back to the subject . . . often the toiletries are sooo much more expensive at the airport

Boots do where possible charge similar prices at their airport outlets as they do in their high street ones. Even the meal deal packages cost the same in most shops.

They do for now. It is usually in the small print that the airlines can refuse to allow passengers to board with more than one piece of hand luggage, so far I've not heard of an airline actually doing so. How long will it be though before one of them decides to try charging passengers for extra hand luggage? As soon as one does it the rest will follow.

I agree Deedee, anything to make an extra £ or two from us.....
We have in the past been asked to fit our Boots meal deal bag AND our bottle of champers from the shop, inside our hand luggage (only one piece was allowed at the time)....then took it straight back out again as soon as we boarded the plane lol!
Funny old world.....

The shops and other facilities should be open to cater for all departing flights, no matter how early or late they leave.....apparently it's in their service agreement.
We have had to wait 10 or 15 minutes for the shops to open after checking in for a very early 5am flight though.
