Hi there.

My family and I are considering a last minute holiday to Corfu, it will be our first time. We would be staying between Kouloura Bay and Kalami Village (NE) and were wonderingn what is the nearest airport. I have heard people mention Corfu airport, is this the main one? is it the only one?! Also does anyone know how far it is away?

I really really hope to go,it seems like such a beautiful, unspoilt place, can't wait!!

Would really appreciate any replies asap.

Thank you, Lou

There is only one airport in Corfu, near to Corfu town, it is approximately 25 km away, hope this helps

Well Lou, considering that you know very little of Corfu  you have managed to pick THE place to stay. Really nice area with nice villas, one taverna in Kouloura and three in Kalami. Domitri's on the top road and a short walk or boat ride to the three Tavernas at Agni bay.

It takes about 40 minutes by taxi to Kalami. When are you thinking of going. We will be there after 13th September, mostly to be found around Agni.

hello,Loopy Lou,

The north of the island is in my opinion the best area to stay in.Corfu Airport is the only one serving the island and gets very busy on change over day(Monday),We always check in our luggage then walk along to a quiet area just to the site of the checkin hall and await our flight.(take a sandwich and some soft drinks or water)We go through to the departure lounge with abot 30/40 minutes to take off time, this gives Sally time to get her duty frees before we board. The reason we do this is the departure lounge gets packed and you are very lucky if you get a seat.Hope this helps.

Hi LoopyLou,

To re-iterate what Graham said, if it was by chance that you picked this area, you certainly are lucky! most people think that it is the best part of the island, and I think that you are going at one of the nicest times, as it is not too hot, and a bit less busy than in high season.  This means that walking is a lot more pleasurable. We had hoped to get out in September, for our second visit of the year, but circumstances have conspired against us, so we will have to wait for next year!

Have you looked at the guide on this site for details of the area, it may give you ideas about what to do, and where to go, it can be found here:-

Good luck with the visit.
