Will be in Corfu for 9 hours in July'08.  Any suggestions of a must see or do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, dont know where you will be, but i would hire a  small car with a.c. for the day, a map, and i would explore the north east and the north west of the island, there are some spectacular views.

Hope all goes well, im sure you will enjoy Corfu.

Are you on a Cruise and docking for the day?

It depends on what you like.  I mean I could spend 9 hours just walking around Corfu Town and the old Castle etc, stopping for a bite to eat and a drink.  There is so much to see there getting lost down little alley ways.

Or you can do as Lorac suggested above.

Have a walk round Corfu Town and visit the church of San Spyridon, the museum of Asiatic Art and have a coffee on the Liston. Do this before the shops close at 14.00 THEN go down to the port and take the boat to Vidos Island, which is a 10 minute boat trip and costs 1 euro'return' and have a meal at the caprice restaurant there.  The food is excellent and the island is smaqll enough to walk round.  The is a memorial to over 1200 Serbian war dead but the island isn't morbid.  It is fantastic and very few people who visit Corfu year in year out have ever ventured over there which is a great shame.  The small boat leaves the port (near the Kalypso Star Boat) on the hour going over to the island and on the half hour coming back.  Well worth a visit.  Tell Menios and his wife Gill the owners of the restaurant Rachel recommended you visit!  ENJOY.

R.Walker,

If you are visiting the island with a cruise ship, members are fully aware that you have very limited time to see as much as you can. Old Corfu town will more than occupy any time you have on  the island and you will wish you had more time.

There is so much to see and do, a short visit can do little more than whet your appitite as to what the island has to offer. So many visitors spend only a short time on the island but they are smitten as to what the island has to offer.

You have taken the first step, you have asked this forum for information. You are now past the first step to those who are hooked on the island and all it's aspects.

CONGRATULATIONS on becoming one of us. The forum and it's members will be only too happy to help and advise on any questions you have about OUR island.

Yammas,  Colin.

Hi, i love going around the old town, the shops are great, and the narrow streets are lovely, i also love the new fort on the edge of the old town with its tunnels and the view from the top is breath takeing, but if you have a car there is so much to see, the north and east with its mountains, beaches, and pretty towns  the south is flat but also has some lovely beaches, really you cant go wrong what ever you do corfu is great, enjoy your hoilday

Depends what time you arrive but presuming in the morning.

Walk round Corfu Town first for a couple of hours first. There are several walking routes suggested on this site.

At midday, hire a car and drive up the NE coast (an hour tops) and stop off in Kaminaki or Kalami for lunch and a swim.

After lunch drive up the coast a bit more and look at Kouloura and have a coffee.

And then drive back to town. If you have time and are feeling brave, don't go back the way you came but drive on further north past Kassiopi and on to Acharavi and then turn left and come back over ther top of the island and back down into Ipsos and then back into town but that can take nearly two hours and unless you have a good map and a mapreader I would not recommend it as you may miss yopur onward connection!
