We need an inexpensive stay for 3 nights in February for two "fairly" active seniors and would like domatia or hotel within walking distance of sites in old town or  best tourist areas.  My husband is Greek born living abroad for many, many years and speaks the language fluently.  We do visit Athens frequently in the winter season but never venture further than the city and the home village.  I wish to change this and get to see the beautiful country even though it is off season.  Can someone please recommend an accommation that won't rupture our pocketbook?  Thank you.

Since you will be going in winter, the rates at the Hotel Arcadion right in the centre of the old town might just be affordable, depending on what you can spend. If not, I would suggest the Hotel Dalia in Garitsa (assuming it is open in the winter). You could walk from there to the old town.

Thanks Dasia:  With the dollar taking a beating on the world market, I really am watching my pocketbook.  We are pensioners and not high rollers.  I will check out your suggestions.

Thanks Nigel ... I am making my way through the list.  I must focus on Corfu Town because we won't have a car at our disposal and I would like to be able to walk to sites.  I did send an inquiry to Cavalieri ...  I hope to hear from them.  Sounds real nice.  I also saw the Pink Palace (hostel) We have never stayed in a hostel before but I note it says it welcomes people of all ages, families, etc. and we are not high maintenance people.  I wonder if anyone on the board might have had experience at this place.  Perhaps I should put another question to that effect on the messge board.  I like the fact there is breakfast and dinner included and there is pickup upon arrival.  But it seems to me that it isn't in Corfu Town ... I have to check this out.  Thanks again.

Hi,

No it isn't.  It is in Agios Gordios.

Have you tried the Corfu Holiday Palace in Kanoni?  It is a little outside the town but walking distance to Mon Repos and Paleopolis.  There is a bus stop just up the road that presumably would take you into the centre.  We got a very good deal there in October paying less than £12 per person per night for bed, breakfast and dinner.  We booked through www.travelrepublic.co.uk

I wonder if ths is too early for me to be checking a number of hotel sites.  I have been coming up with no availability ... maybe they are still closed down  and don't have winter hours.  I have made inquiry of two places, one of which I received an answer  (Arcadion Hotel).   I can't get a response for Corfu Holiday Palace in Kanoni .. sounds very much in my price range ... but they also might not be taking guests in February.
