ive used orange pay as you go and contract and never had a problem anywhere in the island service is normaly provided by cosemot or in certain parts of the island vodaphone (dont ask me how it works)

Ive now got the cheap option i went to the vodaphone shop in Acharavi bought a cheap second hand unlocked phone and a greek sim and save my self loads of money on calls its paid for the phone many times over already and i have a spare phone for use in the uk as a back up

I have used my orange phone in corfu for the last to years on the run first year it locked to panafone then the second year to cosmote the first phone was a samsung v200 then a nokia 3210 with both i went to the orange shop and asked if it worked in greece they unlocked the network bar and each time gave me £5 free credit which activated when i switched my phone on after we landed.

This time its a contract phone which you have to remove the network bar thay said it will lock to cosmote again

Hope i am allowed to put a link on sorry if not

You are all missing the point .....lol.......Orange have no network transceivers any where near Corfu ..so.......if you make a call via another network , cosmote , voda , etc. etc . you will pay the carriers call charges and Oranges call charges simultaniously .

Trace , you can get a Greek sim in Acharavi if you don't want to troll into town .

orange call costs in Greece.

bear in mind that you could use an alternative sim, such as a greek vodaphone one, but only if your phone is unlocked.

I"ve had my Orange phone floating between COSMOTE and GR VODAFONE mainly when I"ve been to Corfu(These are the main two that I remember). So which of these two is the best network to "fix" on for the lower roaming tariffs??

I can answer my own question.....!!!  GR Vodafone, COSMOTE, and TIM(that was the one I forgotten)....all have the same roaming rates!!(what a surprise).  The better news is that whilst it cost £1 a min to make a call and 60p to receive one.....the rates seem to have changed to 70p to dial out and 30p to receive. Still high, but thanks to the EU, not as big a rip-off as it was.

I got this info from the Orange website...and the GSM Europe website has prices across Europe, including Corfu and Greece(though I don"t think they"ve updated the Greek tariffs).

Hi Alex ,

As you will probably have guessed , Corfu [ and Greece ] have their own rules ........ie : EU ....what ??

Don't knock it , it is why we all love the place and the people . Voda have actually installed a mast above Butrinti on Albania . They , the locals [ Corfiots ]  were fed up of paying AMC[ Albanian rates ] that the powers that be  [ I won't say the government  ] took Voda to task ....and hey presto ......A Voda mast on the opposite coastline .

I understand about the charges, but the original question was about coverage for the orange network not charges! I had no problems with signal in June.

Saxy1 ,

So you don't mind paying twice or thrice for calls then ? Wish I did not have to worry about call charges
