Hi Neil,

Thanks for the information on our local airport and travel company. Something to keep an eye on. However, probably like yourself, I have travelled out of and into Bournemouth quite a lot over the years, and have not, I recall, encountered any problems so far with baggage. Maybe because we are such early birds when checking in. Times are achanging, so it is worth knowing this sort of information for future reference.

Thanks and Best Wishes.

Hi Sailor

It was Peggy that suggested decanting into plastic bottles. It was on one of those threads about holiday tips.

LOL

I've just been reading this thread, and have just one question for Chriscbth....how on earth is it possible to be 7 kilos over your luggage limit on the way TO your holiday ? That's quite an accomplishment

LOL

Our friends daughter does it everytime by anything from 2 or 3kg, upto 7.5kg was her maximum excess baggage. She knows she does it, because she is one of these 18yr olds who likes different shoes and handbags every night. However, you can guarantee she will moan like hell at Gatwick or other airports if she is charged excess baggage, but she will do exactly the same this year again.

Best Wishes.

Trace..

Like I said, Debs, my partner, has nothing to wear, but it weighs a ton.  There were a lot of toiletries and books which I think contributed a lot, on the way back we did leave all the read books behind and most of the toiletries.  I think it was accepted that too many clothes were taken and I suspect that the 'nothing to wear' might be a little lighter next time.

We never wigh the suitcases at home so watching the scales at the airport and waiting to see what is said is always fun!

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris

I used to be like that. I had a different pair of sandals and handbag for every outfit but having been back 17 times I have learned. If I do take books they are in my hand luggage. Apart from toothpaste, brushes etc. We buy all the sun products, shampoo etc in the resort. Its more or less the same price as the UK. Saves from having to pack them. As for outfits I confess I am guilty of taking too many. Coming home with things I haven't even worn. Something along the lines of "it looked alright when I tried it on a home but it looks horrible, I've got nothing to wear now"

I now have my 'travel clothes' these are my trusty outfits that I feel comfortable in and take every year with the odd new outfit just so that all the photographs dont look the same! I only take three pairs of sandals and handbags, only two of which I wore this year.

We have been lucky so far, only once were we over and they let us through, and for some reason David instinctively knows when we are over as he has to carry the cases!

LOL

To keep your luggage weight down - take full size bottles of shampoo, shower gel, cans of deoderant etc, etc with you......just make sure they only have enough left in them to last you the week/fortnight as required. At the end of your holiday, you just bin the now empty bottles and containers. You now have lots of "extra" space/weight in your case for carrying back pressies (well ok, Ouzo then!). Saves you messing about buying stuff in resort that may not be your usual brand (it's a woman thing) and there's no wastage. I swear by this method now - makes an enormous difference, especially if you are like me and tend to take the whole of Boots AND Superdrug with you on holiday.

Also, where possible, for during the day anyway (when clothes tend to get all covered in suntan lotion etc) try and pack same old clothes that are pretty much on their last legs - then you don't even bring them home with you..... same can goes for towels - take an old bath towel, and just throw it away before you fly back (How many bottles of Ouzo can I fit in now). Another idea like this is to buy really cheap tops/T shirts (Matalan etc) and just don't bother bringing them home again.

I tend to be over weight taking stuff out for friends but so far, (touch wood), we've been allowed to get away with it.

I'm buying my shower gel etc out there this time.

I've eased my overweight problem by leaving a selection of my clothes in our friends' wardrobe for our return.
