When we were told go to see Old Perthia, my first reaction was what do we want to see a load of tumble down houses for, but Pete wanted to spend  1/2 hour or so there. How wrong can you be? it is a fantastic place we spent 3 hours there and it would have been longer but it stated to rain. Photos on our website www.holmvalley.com  I would recommend it to anyone.  Viv

Totaly agree, we went in febuary so the taverna's were shut which was a pity, will go back again and hope to try the "Local" food.

Hi Viv,

loved your photos not just of old perthia but of the flowers, birds & tortoises.

If I go to Old Perthia in hire car can I drive all way there or if not where do I park and walk from. I have one of Stephans maps so I'll be able to find anywhere you direct me. Thanks in advance.

Daveyh - the road stops about 200 metres from the edge of the villiage, when I went I was the only car so I just parked ther, In the summer I would you might have to park a bit further away, but not a lot..

Old Perithia is a wonderful place to visit - very peaceful.  We always eat in O Foros in the main square - the food is the most authentic, traditional menu we have found anywhere.  The owner, Thomas is a lovely man who takes a real pride in the fact that the food they prepare uses fresh local produce, mountain herbs and all prepared in small quantities - to order.  Vasso, his wife, is a truly inspirational cook!  No wonder Rick Stein visited last year to film there....the programme will be on tele in England in September. If you go to Old Perithia try the Taverna .....you will not be disappointed.  We love the Gigantes, Briam, Bekri Meze, Kremithopita and I always have to have Kolothithokeftedes.

We looked for it last year, but couldn't find it.. This year we also have Stephan's map, so I'm sure we'll get there this time.

Thanks for the nice photos!!

And Lizzi - the "snake" is a lizzard (without legs..) can't remember the English name for it..

Hi,

Loved the photos as well.  We must go and have a look.

Do you mean a slow worm?

We went 15 years ago on the recommendation of a rep we met. There were 8 of us in a little minibus. Talk about a hair raising experience driving up there! At that time it was just a very rough track, with a sheer drop at the side and only wide enough for one vehicle. I was terrified we'd meet something coming down! There was only one taverna, which only opened part time and was closed when we went. I wouldn't have missed it though. The village was totally deserted then, and you could look into the old cottages, some with furniture still in them, but no roof. I believe quite a few have been renovated now? Must try to go back and see what it's like now.  Moyra
