Hi
I am looking for some advise, every time we go away after 2 days my feet and ankles swell up, this year has been the worst ever, I could hardly walk they got so big, I don’t suffer in this country no matter how hot it gets. I try to sit with my legs up as much as possible and I have had to sleep with my legs raised, I know it is water retention but does anyone have any ideas why this happens and how I could help reduce this problem as it really ruined my holiday this year.
Thanks

Try taking water tablets (Aqua Ban), I do and my feet dont swell now.   I start taking them before I tavel then they dont get so swollen on the flgiht too.  I tried this when I went long haul and it worked.

I had the same problem last year and ended up having jabs in the butt!!!!

I was happily plodding around with one ankle three times the size of the other and the pharmacist sent me to the doctor who found I had sky high blood pressure also and yet I never felt so good - hence 3 days of jabs!!!  It was touch and go as to whether they could get it lower so I could fly home.  Oh dear what a shame - having to stay in Sidari for more than my 2 weeks hols - oh dear how I paniked (I don't think so!!!- lol)

The hotel staff were absolutely fantastic - even to the point of peeling oranges into segments for me so I could sit with my foot on a foot-stool and relax.

I was even reassured there would be a room for me should the need arise.

Oh such heaven - seriously though joking aside my husband said I couldn't return this year - but guess who won?  Me of course.

My doctor is putting me on water tablets two weeks prior to departure.  I hope they work cos we went late June/early July last year and it was hot but we go August this year - probably even hotter!!!

Yiippee doooooo - swollen ankles will not stop me!

You can buy Aqua-ban at any chemist without prescription.  Boots the Chemist do there own herbal ones as well they are called Water Relief.

£3.75 for sixty.

but Aqua-Ban are about 20p cheaper for sixty.

Mine had never swelled until last year so I was a bit worried, but after a few days they calmed down luckily but I kept them elevated and drank loads of water, trying to keep them cool was the hard part though, they felt like they were on fire   .....

Thanks for all your suggestions, I took my feet to the Doctors and he suggested all the things I do already and thought taking the Aqua Ban was a bad idea as I could get dehydrated (that was after I had told him what they were as he didn’t know) so guess who’s advise I am going to take? My Aqua Ban is on the table ready for a trail run before my next holiday and I am going to invest in some new flight socks but I don’t think it’s the flight as they don’t come up for 2/3 days, I will let you know how I get on after my trip in Sept (when I decide where to go!!

I suffered terribly last July from swollen ankles.  My GP had put me on Amlodipine for high blood pressure and this is one of the most common side effects, but on holiday they were more swollen than ever and didn't come down again for 2/3 weeks after we got back.

He has just put me a different BP tablet so I hope my ankles will return to normal.  I bought some flight socks which helped a little bit, but like others, they didn't really reach their full 'puffiness' until 2 days into the holiday!
