A well known website that sells holidays, this week has been very strange in its pricing policy, can anyone out there work out how they arrived at the figures below?? the holiday is with Thomson in the North west of the island but not being sold direct by them!

Earlier this week

FULL PRICE £244 PP SAVE UPTO £65 ..... X 2 = £488 BEFORE DISCOUNT

PHONE PRICE £219 ..... X 2 = £438      CONFIRMED PRICE BY PHONE

ONLINE PRICE £179 .... X 2 = £358      WEEK PREVIOUS HAD BEEN £388

SO YOU CLICK ON BOOK ONLINE AND FILL IN THE DETAILS AND THIS IS WHAT YOU END UP WITH !!!

BASIC COST X 2        £588

SAVING X 2            - £050

GOVT GREEN TAX       £010

ONLINE DISCOUNT - £080

TOTAL TO PAY          £468?????????

SO AS YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE NOW 4 DIFFERENT PRICES FOR THE SAME HOLIDAY!!!

TODAY SUNDAY 25TH MARCH

FULL PRICE £294 PP SAVE UPTO £65 ..... X 2 = £588 BEFORE DISCOUNT

PHONE PRICE £269 .... X 2 = £538

ONLINE PRICE £229 ....X 2 = £458

ONCE AGAIN CLICK BOOK ONLINE AND HEY PRESTO THIS IS WHAT YOU END UP WITH!!!!!

BASIC COST X 2       = £588

SAVING X 2               -£050

GOVT GREEN TAX X2   £010

ONLINE DISCOUNT - £080

TOTAL TO PAY ????     £468

ONCE AGAIN 4 DIFFERENT PRICES BUT BOTH SETS END UP AT COSTING THE SAME??????

SO WHAT IS THE THEORY BEHIND THIS?? A CON ?

DAVE.

Double check their Basic prices!

Thomsons seem to be doing very strange things on their web-site at present such as quoting big reductions from high prices especially for our bank-holidays.

As far as I can see some prices they quote are considerably higher than the brochure prices !!!

I regularly keep tabs on Thomson's prices for the hotel we visit and have never noticed the prices they are now quoting such as £1000 (Basic price)for 7 days from Gatwick on 25th May (before a deduction of £150) i.e £850 for 2 persons.
BUT the full brochure price is £335 plus £50 flight supplement x 2 = £770.

Either they have made some silly mistakes or it is a CON !

Dennis....the phone price quoted was £219 each ..with nothing more to pay! for the hotel i told you about by pm!!  the online price was £388...

yesterday they said that there was no accomadation left only the flights but they are still even now advertising the holidays as being available??

Thomson`s  own site have quoted the price much higher! at £698.

Had a similar experience with My Travel, saw a price on the internet for Kassiopi, told Pauls colleague about it and as he was going to town that day he went into the My Travel shop. He was told that the holiday was no longer available, but it was still on the internet for another 2 weeks after that !!!!

I went through the booking procedure right up to entering card details and at no point did it say the holiday was no longer available !!!!

Hi Dave,

This could be due to the travel industry's version of 'fluid pricing' If lots of people check the price of a specific holiday on a web site, the company assumes that it's in demand and their software will increase the price accordingly.

Same thing happens if one person checks the price of a specific holiday several times.

Dave.

Lets be honest Dave, can you ever work out what tour operators are giving you for what you pay? I dont think so, we are hoodwinked into believing we have a good deal, thats how they survive. Even when you and Kerry travelled with us on a flight only, we did not 'buy a meal' because we booked the flight so late  and for a very good price!!!!!! they did not give us the option. So we all went and bought a sandwich at Boots remember? However when the meals came round even though we had paid a very small percentage of the other customers because we were brave enough to wait, we got the meal we did not pay for. So 'What is that all about' Yes they are con artists preying on new customers and not giving a damn about previous ones.

Sylvia....i think you have hit the nail on the head with your last paragraph......

Very nice man...you could have a valid point but even that fails to explain the difference between the Full Price of both....the Phone Price of Both and the Online price of both or the fact that they both end up with the same Online price!!! with the same start and end prices.

It also says book online and save!!

either it is a Con or whoever is responsible for inputting the prices got it wrong ??

Dave.

It could be a way of making us think we are getting a good deal.

Another good reason for booking direct we think, they are con artists

Our experience is that travel companies will often declare falsely that Corfu accommodation is fully booked and then recommend a holiday in Turkey because they obtain a better rake-off from there.   Ocay.

Ring them up, quote the cheapest price and tell them by advertising it they have made a legal contract between them and its customers.  I man I worked with once went into Currys a brought a 27" flat screen TV for £59.99 - because they had advertised the price wrong - it was meant to £599.99!!  He argued the toss and won!

I say go for it - if you dont ask you dont get
