My mate swears by the Green "Skin So Soft" as it seems to work for him.

We tend to stick with a "House" Brand spray from Boots but only because my Daughter works there.

Wife and I have used the following regime for several years now and we are untroubled each August.

Before we go out in the evening we apply Soltan Aftersun (the one with included repellant) and then apply Autan repellant on critical zones like ankles and neck. Works a treat for us.

Hi Viv m

The Avon product for mozzies used to be called woodland fresh but it has now changed its name and packaging to skin so soft soft and fresh, it has to be dry oil body spray. it has a lovely smell and leaves your skin feeling nice and soft especially after a day in the lovely sunshine.

I also use the shower gel of the same product soft and fresh, it works for me along with all the vitamins and hay fever remedies if we are bitten, to save itching. We're like a walking chemist.

Tiddles,

It does look like Avon have stopped the Aloe Ice Gel I mentioned as it is their Sale book with campaign 6, £1 a bottle, so I am ordering 5!!! I also use the SSS Woodland fresh, I spray it on my top sheet at night and that seems to stop me getting bitten whilst sleeping.

Could I just say that as a nurse who gives travel advice - there is no evidence that Avon Skin So Soft is effective in preventing mossie bites- the only ones proven to work are the products which say thet contain DEET - Boots do an own brand which is very good and slightly cheaper than any of the branded ones.

The avon stuff, vitamin B tablets, after sun with mosquito repellant and Autan mosquito repellant (all at the same time!) didn't work for me last year!!

Regarding the Avon Skin So Soft Product, This may be of interest (from the consumer reseach site)....

"When tested under laboratory conditions against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, this product's effective half-life was 30 minutes. Against Aedes albopictus, Skin-So-Soft oil provided 40 minutes of protection from bites, a duration 10 times less than that of 12.5% DEET. It has been proposed that the limited mosquito repellent effect of Skin-So-Soft oil could be caused by its fragrance or the presence of diisopropyl adipate and benzophenone in the formulation, both of which have some repellent activity"

Have no idea how accurate the info is mind you, but interesting none the same!

At least my bites/blisters gave the folk waiting in the bus queue in Agios Gordios something to talk about!!  It made everyone feel their bites were not too bad by comparison.

I'm going for anti histamines and extra strength mossie repellant this time.  if that doesn't work I'll have to try holidays in Iceland! (the country not the shop!!)
