The place to buy tickets before getting on are, I believe, relating to Corfu Town.

From Gouvia we have travelled on the Green bus to Paleo and the one to Kassiopi (getting off at Kendroma for the stroll down to Agni). Tickets have always been bought on the bus as singles but at 80 cents or so it's not exactly a great expense.

The blue bus that runs from Ipsos through Gouvia to Corfu Town can resemble a cattle truck around 9 - 10am in my experience with people packed in tight in the aisles but you get there and cheaply too. Get to the main stops early when coming back to ensure a seat - though I give mine up to ladies and the elderly.

Hi all,

I have a close friend in San Stef who was the owner and driver of bus No.1 a fact he was always very pround of. With regard to the number of people he could get on the bus he would always say that you start off with a jerk and accelerate hard to get everyone packed down the back so that there would be room at the front for the next lot. He claimed to have over 30 standing sometimes!!

Roll on next Wednesday.

I think you will find that there are 3 buses daily from Corfu to Athens. Try www.athensguide.com/schedules/busterminala.htm for timetables

If that's the bus to San Stef NW I can vouch for that.  I've been on it when people were sitting three to a seat and on another occaision had to have a child (not mine) sitting on my lap for most of the journey when the only other option was for her to stand for an hour.

Hi Jane b,

Thats the bus. Last year when we were coming from the airport to San Stef, in the taxi we followed one of the buses at rush hour time and there was a young lad in the back of the bus spreadeagled like a Garfield in the rear window it was so full.

I think that Corfiot women have the sharpest elbows on earth when it comes to getting on the bus in Corfu town. I have the bruises to prove it!

5 days and counting

Don't forget, when you spot the bus you want make an effort to flag it down.

DO NOT ASSUME it will stop. I have seen buses sail past nervous/shy potential passengers in Gouvia - where they thought it would automatically pull over into the layby.

Hi All.

It may get crowded on some of the buses (Blue in particular), and I love the post on the driver jerking forward to make more room. We all laugh, but it is true. It is great fun on the journey to Corfu Town from Gouvia/Kontokali, it is worth it just for the experience. However, one can be full of relief when you get off. Part of the Corfu Experience.

Best Wishes and Happy (Bus) Journeys.

Hi Sailor

We also found the blue buses were a bit crowded. It did not cause a problem but sometimes it did get quite hot on there with a lot of different smells.
