Hi folks

Can anyone who's recently gone from Gatwick advise on the current state of check-in ?  Tickets still say 2hrs, but wonder if this is right.  Flying at 21.25 this coming Monday and need a rough idea of how much extra time to allow.

Many thanks

Ron B

We flew Gatwick to Kalamata about 10 days ago - fastest & smoothest check-in ever!  Two hours is still OK.  My wife had packed cosmetics in the checked baggage, and only problem was having to throw away her lipsyl before going through security.

I flew from Gatwick to US last Saturday.  It was exceptionally busy due to bank holiday traffic.  Once inside the airport, check in was fairly simple.  Personally, I would allow an extra half hour rather than worry about it, especially as you are not flying early in the morning.

Flew to Corfu from Gatwick last weekend, Ours was the first flight of the day so very quiet!! Check in did open more the 3 hours before the flight but I don't think you have to be there any earlier, We always go the night before as we're too excited to sleep so good for us! They are stricked with what you can take on the plane so just take you essentials to be on the safe side. If your going at a busy time of day Security can take a while as they are now asking everyone to remove there belts and shoes for xray which does hold the queue up, Also beware if you travelling on the early flight there is no where open in the departure lounge until 3.30am (Macdonalds) so there is nowhere to get anything to drink even water which I think is a bit off as your not allowed to take water through, Also you are not allowed to take lighters through either I threw mine away only to find when I was in departures that most people had smuggled them through which is pretty bad when you think about it if you can get a lighter through what else has gone through!!!

Anyway my next trip is a friday night flight really not looking forward to Gatwick on a Friday night!!

Good luck and have a great time

Cheryl

That is disgraceful behaviour......I'd have reported anyone I'd seen doing that

Do some folks seem to think that the new security restrictions don't apply to them??

Considering that a single book or box of matches is allowed in hand luggage, I don't know why they bothered having to smuggle lighters through.....

Hi there,

Many thanks, on behalf of Ron, for all your input.

Will remind him and his mate about the problem with lighters - both are smokers who'll head outside for a fag whilst they wait for the luggage to arrive when they get to Corfu.

You can take matches so no need for a lighter!! And when you get off at Corfu there's always a friendly taxi driver with a light!!

Although our taxi driver George said he's going to start selling lighters at the airport!! Said he would make a mint!!

I found the same problem.

You are not allowed lighters, razors, scissors tweezers etc past security ...... that is OK, not a problem.  Yet good old Boots sells all these items airside (past security).  Why????
