Anyone been to Mytiotissa beach on the west coast this year yet? Last year it was quite small after heavy winter storms took lots of the beach away - does anyone know if it's the same this year?

We're off two weeks today and I need to know it's there waiting for us...

Dear Dazkins

Myrtiotissa is still there my friend owns Villa Myrto on the corner of the road that leads to Myrtiotissa. She sent her son to look for me and it is still there as there were concerns beginning of year that it had dissapeared roll on the 7th July Myrtiotissa here we come

Hi Dazskins

Sorry if I am not answering your  post quite as I should - but I expect that there will be someone who knows.  We tried to visit last year - but didn't manage it - ( ended up at Glyfada ... really I ask you )  I know its a stunning sandy beach and awsome location without the crowds.  I understand that the pathway down is a bit tricky.

We may possibly try again this year - I know that there is some nudity going on there -( and this causes concerns with some CTG members so lets not get drawn in on that one please )   -

I just want to go bacause it looks so fabulous -  I take it you visited many times last year - was the nudist thing a problem - or was it confined to the far ends of the  beach ?

I trust someone will help you on your question better than myself.

Have a fab time - regards

SIMON

Thanks for that - at least i know it's there, if not how big it is!

It's such a labour of love to get down to it, I'd probably throw myself off the cliff path if we turned the corner and it was gone this year... 13 days to go...

Hi Dazskins, as far as I can discover the beach hasn't changed in size particularly since last year - which means it's still fairly small.  At this time of year that shouldn't be a major problem, but in high season it'll be very crowded (it certainly was last August!).  I'm heading there next week, and I'll get some up-to-date photos.

Just as an afterthought, there's a photo on a German site which shows the beach in 2005 (see http://www.olympion.de/images/zoom/TRXFCH/corfioten.jpg ) and if you compare it with the pic used as my avatar (taken in 2004) you can see what a big reduction in area the beach suffered in the 04/05 winter storms.

Sorry to report that Mirtiotissa seems even smaller this year.  It remains charming, quiet, and almost 100% nudist on the larger (southern) part of the beach. The road down from Taverna Elia to beach level is now getting really bad; I'd certainly suggest that visitors park at Taverna Elia (only 2 euros) and walk the rest of the way. Remember that any damage to or recovery of hire cars on the unmade road won't be covered by insurance! Just the other day, I watched a Fiat Punto driver having major problems trying to get up the hill from beach level.

No kidding - just got back and not only was it smaller - but after two storms last week, we watched another 3 metres disappear in front of us! With German kids already on school holiday and over-running the place, we had to get there really early just to get a space, and by lunchtime it was worth avoiding till the evening. Such a shame - hopefully the gods will see fit to return the sand (which is resting in a tantalising sand bar just off shore!) next summer... for we shall be back anyway I dare say...

For any hardcore fans about to go - Joanna and Ami are still running the stall down there, so the best sandwhiches and fruit with honey in the world can still be bought for lunch... paradise is just a little cramped this year.

It's very disappointing, Dazskins, but there's not much any of us can do about it.  When I was there last month, I thought how sad Aimie must be - after all, the basis of their business is disappearing too.  But regardless of the size of the beach, Mirtiotissa remains a tranquil haven for those of us who love and respect its unique atmosphere.

I'm going back in August, and I shall again share my time between Mirtiotissa and Issos beaches.  I've found Issos to be a very free and easy location, with wonderful swimming.  Amazingly, the same people turn up at the same places on the beach, at the same times of the year!  Maybe you should give it a try too.
