It's well worth a trip to the north, and the roads are generally OK.  You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you invest a fiver on a really good roadmap before you go - don't rely on car rental maps, they're often worse than useless.  A good map is the Road Editions 301, which you can buy online from various UK suppliers, including http://www.mapsworldwide.com/map_12611.htm (no connection with them, just a happy customer).  Another good one is the Berndtson & Berndtson map of Corfu & Ionian Islands, but I think this maybe is out of print now.

Impossible to say how difficult you'd feel it is, I can only say that personally the northern roads seem pretty OK to me, and certainly worth the journey. The roads aren't like say the Amalfi drive in Italy, nor some of the Madeira roads - these can really be terrifying, cut into cliffs with shere drops immediately adjacent to the road. The North Corfu roads are much gentler, although there are some spectaluar views and no denying that they are at a fair height, but as far as I recall there aren't many (if any) shere drops by the road, usually a reasonably wide verge/pathway then drops down a faily steep tree covered slope to the sea.

As said before, key thing is to take it easy, and stop when you want to look rather then get distracted. Very beautiful part of the island though - worth the effort.

Have driven these roads for a few years, like everyone on here has already said take care with the bends and oncoming traffic.

I normally drive Sidari to Arillas,Sidari to Corfu Town and over most of the island.

I have always enjoyed the driving and had no problems.

Enjoy your holiday!!

The road down to Agni bay is probably the worst, very steep hill with a sheer drop one side, the road is also very narrow. It is well worth hiring a car just to see the wonderful views that are everywhere when you travel by car, theres one particular point on the main road, where there is a taverna(don't no the name) but it has wonderful views , you can even see Corfu port from there.

It is well worth overcoming your fears and hiring a car for 3 or 4 days, theres lots you will be missing if you do not.
