The roads are narrow and hilly but please don't be put off.The north is in my view the best part of Corfu and by driving around you get to visit such lovely villages.Just take it easy and you'll be fine. Any roads near Pantokrator are steep obviously but there ae plenty of others to get you around the north.

and we used to say if a greek wave at you , he has seen you before, so you might be driving in cirkle. Get a good map from the carrentalofice and you'll be safe.

Don't worry. As long as you take things easy and get home before dark you will be fine. Believe me it's worth the effort. The north of the island is something special.

Hi Annelizabeth

Can only repeat what the other guys have said. I am the biggest wimp when driving abroad particularly when roads start narrowing and get slightly hilly but I really didnt find it a problem in the north. There are some stunning views as you drive around and as already said take it easy and you will have no problems. Enjoy!!

The biggest problem is that you keep looking away from the road to look at the stunning views and if someone coming the other way does the same..........

Why don't you book the island tour around the north and have a look yourself before hiring. If a bus can get around I am sure a small hire car can!!!.

North Corfu is the best part of the island. Try to win your fears and you will get some of the best pictures in your live.

I don't like it either - especially when in a coach!  Driving in a small hire car is so much better and it really is worth it when you see how scenic that part of the island is!

Hi

The main stretch of road which falls steeply to the sea on the norhteast coast is from Kassiopi to Ipsos. If you are really nervous about this, I would suggest that you find you way to the north of the island by heading straigh up towards Sidari/Roda at the main juction in Gouvia (main set of traffic lights) and then follow the coast clockwise - this way you will at least be on the inside, away from the edge.

The roads are in reasonably good condition, but they are twisty and there are reasonable hills. The main thing is to concentrate - if you want to look at the scenery, stop somewhere safe - don't get distracted when driving.

Another tip - on the majority of the sharp bends on this stretch of road, there are circular mirrors mounted on poles which help you to see what's comming the other way.

Martyn
