Hello again, all.  I posted a fear of flying topic quite a while ago - can't find it now.

As my holiday is fast approaching I'm getting more and more apprehensive.  I've read the info on the links some of you supplied and they've been really helpful.  I do feel a lot better about some of my flying worries after reading them.

What i'm wondering is - firstly, does anyone know of any fear of flying relaxation type CD and, secondly, could I play this to myself as i'm taking off?

Would really appreciate any ideas.

Thanks - Hellen

Thanks, Sean.  I will look into that.  Do you think I will be able to play it on the plane - especially as we take off and land?

Hi Hellen

I think it's usually the case that you're asked not to have any electrical equipment switched on at take-off and landing as it can interfere with the plane's own equipment - but you're then allowed to use CD/MP3/DVD players etc during the flight itself.

Hope I'm wrong, it sounds like take-off and landing might be the times when you need your relaxation stuff the most. Best of luck

Hi Hellen,

if you log onto www.scaredofflying.com, there is a CD, book and other helpful hints and tips.

I use it all of the time because I don't enjoy flying either.

Spot on, Claire!  Was thinking the same thing about being not allowed to use them then - just when I really need it!  If anyone can give any further info please let me know?!

You are allowed to use CD/MP3 players , but not during landing or take off. I was allowed to use my Creative zen micro last year with no problems, but if your MP3 player is combined with your phone then you will NOT be allowed to use it at ANY time during the flight, the phone polls even during MP3 mode.

I have seen people use DV camcorders and digital cameras during the flight, and one guy last year openly used his mobile phone during the flight, the flight attendent said nothing to him!!!!

Don't know about this one but if you got an OLD cassette walkman, as they are analoge, would they still stop you using that???

They even switch off the in-flight entertainment during take off & landing, if you intend to use the inflight systems then get an adaptor from maplin and use you own phones!!!

Hi there

I feel the same as you about flying so Im buying a portable dvd player that I can  watch a film on during the flight to take my mind off it, I also take a travel sickness pill an hour before i board and this makes me sleepy so i dont notice the take off.

Also i know this sounds daft but spelling long words backwards when landing or taking off helps because you have to consentrate so much on that you dont notice anything else.  Hope this helps you and have a great hol .

I took one of those travel sickness pills on my first trip om a ferry, I will never take one again as they made me feel terrible, my body tried to fight the thing I felt tired but could not sleep, and due to lack of sleep felt bad all the next day as well, avoid them if you can!!!
