This thread is really interesting! I've never had a coldsore - what causes them?

I've been told that they are actually the same virus as chicken pox - herpes!  They can be highly infectious (although no-one has ever caught one from me as far as I know!!) but also once you have one it stays forever dormant under the skin and can be inflamed by the sun or a bump etc.  I can often get one if I catch my lip eating and apple too roughly!

LOL Folks ,

Cure for cold sores !!! Plenty of snogging , keeps the lips moist and confuses the bugs that try to raise a family of the same tribe on your lips .....lol

I am being serious ......

Just come back on Monday and have two coldsores on my bottom lip.  Started last week and are now at the end of the throbbing stage but drying up.  I have never had cold sores on holiday before and now think it will be the start of things to come!  didnt take anything with me so that is why they have developed now. I hate them... even made a tiny gland in my neck come up too.

oh no jumpup'njive

The gland hurts when it comes up doesn't it.. Yesterday I felt a little pricking on my lower lip. Thought best just to leave it, in case I pass on something from the neck of the coldsore cream tube.  Anyway checked this morning and turns out to be a little pimple, thank heavens.

Jo
