Hi Everyone

Every year I come home with a lovely tan and aarrgghh Coldsores. I use zorvirx from day 1, just in case, and high factor lip screen.

Does anyone suffer from this and have a miracle cure.

 Please help

Jo

Hi Jo

There is something called virulite which is supposed to be really good at clearing them up and preventing outbreaks in the same place.

There is information here:

http://www.vcs.eu.com/index.htm

I am thinking of getting one.  Not cheap but neither is Zovirax which isn't too effective anyway I find.

Hello there!  I am a sufferer of cold sores - almost always have one if i've been in hot sunshine.  I used to use high factor lip stuff but found in the last few years that putting the normal sunscreen on them is better - I put 35 on my lips several times a day (most lip sunscreens are 15/25 maximum) and haven't had one for several holiday (I also take a high dosage of Vitamin B which really helps - I don't get half as many as I used to)

I used to use Zovirax aswell but found that it really wasn't as good as Blistex which I use now.  I keep a tube on me AT ALL TIMES!  As soon as I feel a twinge starting I apply it as though it's going out of fashion - all day, every day and it usually comes to nothing and disappears much better than if I was using Zovirax.

Good Luck!

Hellen

Blistex is good, and cheaper than Zovirax too. I've also found Vitamin B to be very useful. A very useful hint passed on from my Granny is to apply a dab of perfume to the area once you start to feel a tingling(don't lick it!! ).

I always use:- The medi wipes that are used prior to an injection ,last year i even used the greek stuff that you use after you have had a bite, you know the cheap stuff in the pencil like tube from the supermarket,or even mens aftershave.

I have always found blisteze very good - I sometimes think the high factor lotions cause extra problems. My husband suffers from heat rash and while on this site we followed a thread where many people felt high factors stopped the skin from sweating because it clogged the pores. He had used a high factor in the past due to this problem. However due to the thread he took anti histamines and used a much lower factor ( he does tan easily) and hey he did not suffer at all this year from heat rash  So maybe it would be best not to clog your lips to much. I have also heard perfume works well if you use it as soon a you get a tingle.

I also always keep a tube of Blistex with me and my coldsores haven't been half so bad since I started using it.  On holiday I just make sure my lips are ALWAYS moisturised and never give them a chance to dry out.

Cold Sores......Nasty!!! I am always getting them!

I don't use Zovirax......doesn't work on me! As Hazel and Valleygirl have said,as soon as you feel a tingling,Perfume or even Aftershave applied to the area. I use a cream called Cymex. It's not expensive either.
