Hi all

Heading to Corfu 1st time on Friday. Have read all I can about mosquitos  - they seem to be a problem - but are they present in May?

Nothing seems to say what time of the year they come out. Sorry if I am ignorant but I have never encountered them. Do I really need to load up on repellants etc. before I go?

Cheers

I went to Roda in Corfu in May, July and September last year and the only time I got bitten was in Spetember and they ate me alive.  I still have the scars where I could not resist scratching!

There are loads of posts on this site giving great advice on how to protect yourself from the bites and solutions if you do happen to get bitten.  However, you know the old saying "Prevention is better than a cure!".

I have been before at the end of May/beginning of June and they were about, if you take precautions, repellent, plug ins etc you should be OK, my husband on our first trip to Corfu did not get bit once he thought he didn't have to wear repellent and the second time we went he really suffered!!!Bites all over his feet and ankles. I have seen some nasty bites on people that don't realise mosquitos are a problem.  Better to be safe than sorry apply plenty of repellent!!!

Hi

I've just got back - there werenot many around last week, but as the weather improves - who knows. Could be a problem next week. Use a repellant and use the moosie devices in your room overnight.

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance, but what do you do if you want to apply suntan lotion and mosquito repellent?

Which should be applied first?

- Andy.

Mozzies are not USUALLY a problem in the daytime - they usually come out around dusk- unless you're in a bar/taverna with lots of plants. I think they shelter in the plants during the day and then if you brush against them you get bitten! You can get suncream which incorporates repellant, Boots Soltan do one and I'm sure there are others. We always put the plug ins on at night and give the room a good spray before we go out. As long as you're careful you should be fine. Have a great holiday!  Moyra

My husband gets eaten alive this year we are trying vitamin B1 Thiamin 100mg about £4 at holland and barrett the idea is you take one a day a week before you go and then one a day while your away we will use plug ins and sprays etc as usual but hoping this vitamin will help as recommended have a lovely time

Thanks to all for your replies. Managed to get the Jungle cream but not much else available local to me. Will have to get plug ins etc when we get there. Just a little over 24 hrs to go.... 5.55 am flight from Dublin. Hate flying at those times. Still, the dawn will up when we go & we'll get most of the day when we get there.....thanks again.
