Hi everyone,

For some of the best local wine on Earth, try the wine sold at the side of the road in Makrades. It is quite sweet, fruity and has a wonderful taste of summer and earth and everything good.

The old couple at the top junction before you leave Makrades heading towards Sidari are called Heleni and Spiros. If you are driving over the mountain towards Palaiokastritsa they are on the corner as you turn left into Makrades.

They make all their own wine, bottle their own oil and honey and dry herbs. They still work in the fields every day.

The oil is 4 euros a bottle, the wine is 2.50 and the honey is 3 euros a bottle. They give out very generous tasters to anyone who cares to stop by their stall at the side of the road.

Heleni is 74 and Spiros is 84.

Don't miss calling to see them if you hire a car, and take a camera, as the views from this road are awesome!

Hi 2Tonsils

We have bought wine from the same couple before ......the wine was O.K. but the chat with the old couple was amazing......and you can't bottle that!!  One of our wonderful holiday memories.

Hi,

So is there anywhere we can buy local wine in Roda?  We normally get our wine from the local shops, can anyone recommend a good not too expensive wine, White Dry and Red well Red?

Thanks,

TheChef

I take it you have had a look at Sailor Chris's - Greek wine store link, for ALL the info you will need an the various varieties -  http://www.greekstore.co.uk/  but I really would begin by trying the house wine, and progressing on from there - My favourite is always the Rose - and in particular  Tsantalis - Makedonekos in the chubby narow neck bottles  mmmm yummy.
