Hello everyone!! Do you think people are interested in booking their holidays direct without having to deal with travel agents? I own a property in Sidary in which booking direct is available but it seems that most people hesitate to do so and prefer to rely on the big travel agents such as First Choice and Thomson although it would be much cheaper.. I am really interested in hearing what all of you have to say.. Thanks in advance for your replies...

We went direct this year for the first time.  We did save some money but the main reason we did it was so we could get the accommodation we actually wanted.

I believe there are quite a few people on this site that are very happy to book a flight-only ticket with the UK companies and then book their apartment or villa directly with the owners.

In the past nine years, we have only used a tour company once, when we went to Rhodes.  Mind you, that worked out very well because we had a major delay on the return trip and the company took us to a nearby hotel, where they fed us and we spent a couple of relaxing hours by the pool.  If we had been flight-only on that occasion, we would have had to spend the wait just sitting around the airport watching our luggage.

Hi Ttsiolis,

I think direct bookings are becoming much more popular, have been doing it myself for a couple of years or so now and don't think I'd go back to a package deal. The booking of flights can sometimes be a problem though as there aren't that many and they can often be expensive - this might be what holds some people back.

Good luck with the future of your property

Hi

I have just booked a holiday to Corfu for the first time. I am doing it independantly.

I think the major factor is the price of flights. At first I felt it would be too expensive and was going to go for a package deal, then through this site I found return flights for £99 and have been delighted to be able to choose my own accommodation.

Good luck

Hi we have booked our holiday to Corfu with a package company just because we were unsure about the accomodation and transportation  to the resort , but we are going to cyprus in sepember independantly.  However the price is about the same as going though a package company,  it just suits our needs to book it ourselves so that we get the flight we want with the accomodation we want, plus we wont have to pay an under occupancy fee

Hi Ttsiolis

We have been advertising some local apartments on our website since moving to Roda to live and also have an online booking enquiry system. Since putting these on our website we have had many enquiries each year from visitors wishing to book direct, so in our opinion there are a lot of people interested. However, like we say to all apartment owners we know, using the internet to advertise can be a powerful tool but it is still wise to have other forms of advertising as well.

Last year we stayed at a friends house (not apartment) in Kassiopi, the total price was slightly cheaper, and we had a fully fitted house to die for, ie ,massive lounge  bedrooms and kitchen. This, plus the fact that we were in Kass by taxi straight away, and were walking down to the beach while a lot of people were still sat on the coach. I think there is a lot to be said for "independent"

Hiya

We booked independently this year for the first time because like Spike, we wanted a specific accommodation which wasn't available from Belfast through the tour operator.  We actually found this years holiday is working out to be more expensive than our package holiday to Kalami last year but it is all going to be worth it!

Our flights cost £450 which isn't very cheap but because we are from Belfast we find it hard to get really cheap flights.

I definately prefer booking accommodation directly with the resort, I'd rather give them my money but I wouldn't rule out booking with a tour operator again either...

I would much rather book flights and accomodation and arrange my own taxi to Sidari than book through TOs but I find it quite difficult to get cheap flights to Corfu in the summer. If you book through Tos then you have to go for one or two weeks, you have to wait around at the airport for everyone on the coach and then listen to the reps going on about toilet paper. I think the good points about booking through Tos is that you can look at your apartments online and find out quickly what flights are available and apartments are available and then if you get there and find yourself in a nightmarish place you know that the reps are there for you to complain to and may move you somewhere nicer. As I have been to Sidari before I don't think I would be too worried about complaining or needing a rep as the local people are very friendly and helpful but if I had never been before then I would probably use a TO.
