on holiday makes you go 'arrrrggghhhhh', what really gets your goat, makes you say 'I don't believe it!' ?

For me it’s people who insist on having their little piece of Britain available to them on holiday – What I call the ‘Fish and Chip brigade’ those who get excited when they see a full English breakfast available or a Sunday roast.

Maybe I’m a holiday snob?

Couldn't agree more.

The worst thing I saw was on Tenerife, where I was on a winter scuba trip.

One very prominent 'British Pub' advertised that not only did you get Full English but the 'English white bread is flown in every morning' for you.

This is on an island with fantastic Spanish food, easily the best sea food I have ever had even including anywhere in Greece, Tapas bars and excellent Spanish stuff for breakfast. Why bother going away? the people there totally ignored the culture around them.

S (Somewhat bigoted about food)

People who push and shove in the queue at the check-in.  The plane wont go without anyone, and the quicker you get through the queue, the longer you have to wait at the other end.

People who moan and groan about nothing.  (This gets my goat at home too) You know the kind - the weather was too hot/cold/wet/dry, the waiters were surly (try smiling at them - you'll be amazed!) it was too quiet at nights, it was too noisy at nights etc etc.

People who think that we all interested in  what they are talking about, so they speak at the tops of their voices.

Travel reps who mither you to death, but are nowhere to be found in a real emergency.

Thats it, for now.  I think!

Spike....I totally agree......one year we were at a beautiful hotel in Cyprus....where all the guests were staying half board. There was a family who, every morning could be found in the bar opposite the hotel , having, you guessed it....A FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST.....Yet in the hotel was the most beautiful array of breakfast choices imaginable.....fruit/croissants/continental/cereals/and.......yes all the ingredients of a full english...if you wanted it! WHY??????

The other thing I have also be known to shake my head in wonderment at, is families who take a holiday in a hot country in the summer months...(yes it's going to be hot).....and they stay in the apartment all day....coming out to the pool/beach at 4.30 p.m........with the whole family covered in luminous white factor 200 sun bloc from head to toe.....all wearing legionnaire type sun hats and the children in neck to knee length 'zoot-suits'......running to get under the shade of an umberella as soon as they venture outdoors and complaining to all and sundry about the heat...

I know the sun is dangerous, and as a family we always go on our long walks in the morning.....find a nice spot for a long leisurely lunch (in the shade!) and then later in the afternoon flop by the pool or on the beach for a couple of hours.....enjoying the sun but being sensible about it......but there's being sensible.......and there's being sensible

The mad rush to leave the plane, everybody stands up at once squeezed together like sardines trying to open overhead lockers from 6 feet away and dropping the contents on you in the process. Why not sit down and wait it would take the same time to empty the plane and you still have to wait for a coach or a taxi.

Useless holiday reps who try to flog as many excursions as possibleat the welcome meeting and then disappear for the rest of the holiday only to appear on the coach back to the airport begging you to write nice things about them on the holiday questionnaire!

My son Lewis at 14, who on walking round Corfu Town the other year looked at the beautiful old Venetian buildings with their mellow, weathered facades, and remarked with a sniff "they could all do with a good coat of paint!!!

The aforementioned Brits who go abroad and then spend the whole time complaining that "it's not like home"!  OF COURSE IT ISN'T - THAT'S WHY WE GO ABROAD FOR A CHANGE!

Sue

Was in Kassiopi one Saturday afternoon, waiting for the bus back to Ipsos. The time table showed there were two more buses due.

The bus that was due was late and the queue just kept on growing, almost exclusively British tourists, families some with young children. When the bus did arrive it was obvious that not  everyone in the queue would get on and as the next bus was due in just 10 minutes we stood back deciding to wait for that one.

What followed was the most disgusting behaviour I have ever witnessed it was one massive punch up to get on this bus. The driver, conductor, a couple of locals and us tried to explain that there was another bus but it was a pointless exercise. Children were punching and kicking adults, women were hitting men and men hitting women.

I've smiled when English people have put tomatoe ketchup on Kleftico and shook my head at the antics of club 18-30 types but I have never been so ashamed of being British as I was that day.

Paul.

I am in full agreement with the above, but I do have to admint, partaking in the odd FEB once or twice on holiday. Not because it is English, but maybe because it was substantial with a long day ahead.

As for the rest mentioned, and in particular by Pavlo, how embarrassing. I have often been embarrassed to be British when abroad, because of the way people from the UK react to the least little thing. And as did Pavlo, just stand back and let it happen.

One of my real pet hates is the same as Nigel's. People standing up as soon as the plane stops, scrambling for baggage. I have been known to shout down the aircraft, "Sit Down", because the Cabin crew cannot be heard. I have obviously had some looks, and some threats. But what is the rush, the coaches will not leave until they have all names ticked off.

Relax, take it easy, enjoy it. Eat and drink locally.

Yammas, Chris.

PS: It is highly unlikely that one would get todays fresh loaf of bread from the UK, in time for breakfast, either in Spain or Greece.
