My wife and I will be on a cruise which is in Corfu in August for 1 day (8am - 6pm).

What would people recommend we should see in such a short time as this will be out first time to Corfu - we like to look around at the sites, have a nice lunch etc?

Also how far is it from where the big liners berth to Corfu Town?

Cheers

Bill

Hi Bill ,

Unless you hire a car for the day , you will be contained within the town .

The port is within easy walking distance of the town [ 1-2 km] and takes you thro the old harbour area . The old fort is worth a visit and then stroll up into the old town . Here you will find many cafes / bistros etc . and also the Liston , shops , museum , churches all within a small area . The architecture of the buildings and the narrow streets are worth seeing . The day will soon pass , there is so much to see .

Regards........J&H

Yes, you will find plenty to see in Corfu Town - ihave coffee along the Liston and people-watch, and go round the little side streets (lovely jewellery!)Plenty of nice tavernas/ restaurants.  It's a pity you won't have more time in Corfu to explore the island - you'll just have to come back for a proper holiday to visit the North east of the island in particular.

Hi Bill, Can't add anything to what John has said and hope you have a lovely holiday in August.....But can guarantee once you have docked in Corfu for the day you will have wished it had been the other way round like two weeks in Corfu and one day on the cruise ship happy holidays

Hi Bill,

There is so much to see in Corfu Town you will have little time to go elsewhere. Explore the maze of streets and plan your next visit. Even as a frequent visitor, each & every time I find something new.

Colin.

Hi Bill,  We were walking along the harbour last year in Corfu and met a couple of Americans that were on a cruise, being dropped off for a day in Corfu.  They were so friendly!  Anyway, they asked us what we could suggest they do,  we had no idea as it was our first time and we were just wandering too.  By, the way the cruise ship was massive!!!! We just ambled along the sea wall and then through the town. To be honest we didnt really see enough of the town as we didnt know where to go.  We wondered if there was bus that went all round the island for the day as that would have been a good idea too.  I do think it would have been better for us to have done a bit more research as we lost out on a lot.  The Art Museum/Gallery looked interesting and the market was a bit of an eye opener - great fun! We are back there this year and perhaps can see a bit more. Definately agree that one day is not enough - too tiring to do it all. Just enjoy the atmosphere!

Most cruise liners when they visit, offer their passengers a coach trip round the island stopping off at variouse locations. They normally get back in time for the passengers to have a stroll round the town before embarking for their next destination. Whatever you decide on will not give you a deep apreciation of what the island has to offer.

Bob.
