Hi Back in june I decided to save myself £25 on the inflight meals for my wife, granddaughter and myself......everything was going fine untill they started to bring everybody their meals..then all three of us started to get hungry....I wound up paying £28.50 for food and that was just going....and coming back from Corfu it cost me another £22.00.. Mind you the food was delicious..  We finished it off with a tub of cherry ice cream each.

As Maria said to me after " how much money did you save then Bruce "

Trace we flew Excel from Glasgow recently, didn't order meals, didn't book seats and we got a meal and our seats were pre booked on arrival at check in, and we sat in row 6 at the front of the plane!  I had made sandwiches up too! I have to say I wouldn't choose to pay for in flight meals but I actually enjoyed them, possibly because I felt I was getting something for nothing!!

Incidentally best in flight meal was on a business class flight to the states, very very nice  especially since I wasn't paying.

Excel Airways only started making meals optional this season I believe, but some of the tour operators that use Excel are still claiming that meals are included in the holiday price......basically I just don't think they've got themselves sorted out yet. Too much confusion.

We also flew with Excel this summer, but meals weren't optional, they were included in the price

And to confuse things even more, I'm flying Excel in 34 days time.....and meals were optional. I've been daft enought to pay for mine (should've declined and waited to see if I got myself a freebie brekkie)

Remember one year flying with Monarch back from Corfu the plane was half empty there were six of us..everyone of us had a row of seats each..plus when the meals came round the children had three each and then were ask if they wanted more...but we did have to go back to our seats when landing

Bruce

PS...And we were doing it independently and got seats up the front of the plane

We were independent, so didn't use a TO, to confuse things even more

At most dutch airlines you wont get a meal. Last year we flew with the only one who still provides free meals and I must say, the meals were really terrible. So I dont mind not getting any food on the plane because the quality is so awfull. I can bring some myself and that will probably tast a lot better.

We're flying with Britannia on Friday, and for the second year running, opted out of the in-flight meals. I didn't request any when I booked, nor have I been charged for any-I've checked my booking details for that. When our tickets arrived, I noiced that 'Yes' was typed in the 'Meals' box, so I rang First Choice. They told me that Britannia always served meals, so we were getting them whether we liked it or not! I then had to phone the airline direct to order vegetarian meals beause F.C told me it was too close to the date for them to do anything about it. I sincerely hope that when it's time for din-dins on the flight on Friday, the four of us aren't sitting there without a dinner because the message hasn't got through!

When we phoned Brittania to book seats (which we didn't in the end) they said we had a choice from rows 1 to 15 because we had booked a meal.  So it does seem that they sit all of the meal people near the front

this year will be our fourth year of flights to corfu all of which I have opted out of paying for meals ( rather spend the £30 or so on a meal in a local taverna while away)

but only on 1 flight have we not been given a meal and that was with tompson and our tickets had seat numbers on, the other 2 years we were just asked which meal we wanted,

last year,we opted to go self catering on the plane, and they tried to give us a meal, and didn't believe we hadn't paid for one!

this year, first choice charged us £5 extra, per child, and guess what they didn't bring?Instead,we got vouchers to the value, only to be spent on the plane, and all they sell is rubbish!cheers bobbo
