Hi all, could someone help with booking on line for Minoan Ferries, Venice to Corfu. Our vehicle is a transit van full of household goods etc although we can put in all the measurements etc it doesn't say anything for vans, is it OK to book it under caravans or motor home? That's the nearest I can see don't want to be turned away at port!!! Hope you can help thanks

Hi

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think you might have to go as frieght, which may end up being more expensive.

I would suggest that you contact www.viamare.com in the first instance - prices are based on wieght, rather than size.

Thanks Martyn, just checked on cargo. You're right, just over 600 euros more. I was hoping to avoid freight but will have to rethink! Thanks again

Dave Jackson (White Van Man) has been taking furniture and all manner of things to Corfu from the Uk for several years now so ask him. His phone number is 01274 599525 or email him at mcjacksons(at)tiscali.co.uk.

janbob, this is just a thought.....
Drive your van to Dover, where it can go on the large vehicle that departs for Corfu in September. If you email the dimensions of the van, I can obtain a cost quote.(email address below). Saving fuel, tolls, ferry costs and overnight stays, this might be the cheaper solution.

Thanks Daniel/Sylvie I had thought about your transport, been watching the posts but cutting it a bit fine. No way will we be ready to make that trip by September but thanks. It's worth watching for another trip if all else fails! Going to contact white van man see what he can come up with but thanks again, very grateful for replies.

Hi

We drove over to Corfu last July in my husbands crew cab medium roof transit van. We used Anek lines and only paid normal fare for that size of vehicle. We didn't pay cargo rates. I booked it through a ferry ticket agent in the UK.

We are driving over again in October but this time via Ancona on the superfast ferry. Again I have not booked cargo. I am pretty sure that as long as you are just taking your own stuff and its not a massive van you can just travel as a standard passenger. I think the cargo rates are for commercial goods vehicles carrying stuff for resale.

Jan, several people already asked if there would be a transport in October/November as well. Very likely so.
There seems to be sufficient interest in a regular service for larger volumes.
I would suggest you obtain a quote from our transporters and one from Dave (white-van-man), then compare those to the cost of driving your van over yourself.
