Hi Cherie,

Just go to our site www.artemiscorfu.com and on the 2nd page there is a very good Easter link. I assure you Easter in Corfu is out of this world, something not to be missed.

Regards

Karen

I've been to town on Easter Saturday and around 11am, ceramic pots, and we're not talking just little ones on the windowsill, but also huge, massive pots are dropped from the top balconies of the buildings.  It is quite a sight and if you're in Corfu for Easter you must go and see it.  The crowd is held back at a fairly safe distance but it is quite chaotic.  When i went, this all happened just near the Liston area, although small pots are thrown all over Corfu.  Traditionally, the Greeks also shout something at this time, can't remember what exactly or what it symbolises, I'm sure others on the site will know.

What i do know though is that Health and Safety in UK would never allow it!!!

You just have to go and see it for yourself, its unbelievable what they get up to.

Have been told that the pot throwing is unique to Corfu, give them that it is unique althought crazy, we really enjoyed Easter last year

If you have the chance to go then take it.  Get into town early tho and park on the outskirts - makes getting out a bit easier.  It is very busy in town.  The procession itself is quite moving - people throw petals from windows but at 11.00am it changes dramatically.  They launch pots from 1st/2nd/3rd floor windows which are full of water.  Any window which has a red cloth hanging from it indicates that a pot will be thrown from it so watch where you stand! It is considered lucky to pick up a piece of pot but do wait until it has all finished!

After all this we met friend for lunch which ended at about 5.00pm, then met for dinner at 10pm and watched the fireworks at midnight.

An excellent day - go for it

Im going over on the 18th April til the 28th. Trouble im having is where to stay? I dont know whether to go to Moraitika for a few days then come over to Garitsa Bay for Easter itself. Anyone got any suggestions. Ive read somewhere that it is better to stay out of town at Easter time. I have been to the town in the winter for a few months and loved it. Easter or holy week is from the 21st to the 27th

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

I think you would be wise to stay on the outskirts of Corfu Town as it is manic in the centre throughout Easter week. Try somewhere like Kontokali or Dassian  where there is a regular bus service into town and it wouldn't cost too much for a taxi or even to hire a car but I warn you parking is very difficult,in fact last year we had to park on the port and special buses were laid on to ferry us allinto the centre. It actually worked pretty well and reduced the usual chaos! You could try Hotel Tellisilla on the main road  Kontokali or in Dassia check out www.artemiscorfu.com

Regards Karen
