I didn't find it morbid at all as it is a rememberance for people who once lived and you are acknowledging their existence. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

hayesjamea6 - is that a picture of Bob Marley in your avatar?

Hi all.

We visited the British Cemetary in May of this year.

http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/mm/corfu_british/cemetery.htm

It's a haven of beauty and tranquillity, especially at that time of year.

Check out my avatar for a picture of George who'll proudly regale you with information on the cemtary and it's inhabitants, including the British sailors who lost there lives in the "Corfu incident" as mentioned in this months CTG newsletter, and also a certain Joseph Conners who won the VC in the crimean war.

For another picture of the cemetary in full colour, check out our reveiw of the Kontokali bay hotel on trip advisor.

On leaving the cemetary there's a comments book and collection bowl, as I believe they don't get a great deal of money for the upkeep of the cemetary, and what a wonderfull job they do.

The cemetary a morbid place?.

No way, it's a beautiful garden like area that on departure will leave you uplifted

Regards

Carl.

In rare cases it is also possible to be buried with full rites in a Greek church. I attended the funeral of a non -orthodox British expat in 2004, who was interred in this way, in a beautiful churchyard in the mountains above Acharavi. Such an honour is an extremely uncommon occurence though.

Mr Mythos.

After all the trouble that was taken to gain the permition, its a shame nobody does anything about keeping his grave tidy. Not that many graves get much attention.

We went last year, George told us that there are 28 differant species of orchids in the grounds as well as the other flowers and plants, he knew exactly where each one was and its name His a lovely man and very helpfull.

He also seemed to know where to find each tortoise. Viv
