I thought I'd resurrect this old thread, so if you have a week or two to spare, have a read

In the five years since I stopped I have never lost the urge to smoke and fight it all the time, but knowing now I mustn't ever smoke again after my recent cancer scare.

Bruce

PS..It's Maggy fault I resurrected this thread after her saying about old threads on the Paxos forum

Well done Bruce! Wish my mum had your willpower...she too gave up, because as you may remember we nearly lost her due to lung disease 3 years ago. She did so well to start with, stopped smoking and her health really improved. sadly she started having just the odd one, which has caused all her old problems to recur...
You are an example to all those who have smoked for most of their lives and use that as the reason why they cant give up (as my mum does)...it can be done

I gave up 15 months ago, September 2009, wasn't a big smoker except for when I drank alcohol (in the pub), stupid I know, but a cig went hand in hand with a pint of Guinness,

Never smoked in the house or at work and I couldn't see myself standing in a wooden hut outside the pub, May have a cigar after Christmas lunch with a Brandy though, before I fall asleep watching The Royale family

Merry Christmas

Use to smoke between 20-30 a day, gave up over 25 years ago, and have never been tempted. Just wish hubby would give up.

For anybody reading this thread who really wants to stop smoking - PLEASE try Alan Carr 'The Easy Way To Stop Smoking'. Like many people, before I tried it, it seemed crazy that you could read a book and stop smoking - but you can! The crux of the book is that you don't 'give up' anything - you stop. I stopped 3 years ago - I have never for one second wanted to smoke again. Try it - the book costs about the same as a packet of fags!

It's now just over seven weeks that I have stopped smoking...(at this very moment I could kill for a fag)But I say to my self I can do it and that what gets me through every day. Putting a bit of waight on (eating pear drops lol)
I have not taken any thing..its just been pour will power. But you must keep saying to your self like I do...I CAN DO IT...
So good luck to all who like me has packed in smoking...Chris

I stopped smoking (as per my earlier email) about three years ago. The main difference for me is that I didnt use will power at all - the technique just takes away the desire for a fag completely - in fact I actually delight in not smoking!
