Are you a beach lover or a food-lover. Both? Bravo! You are in the right place at Enetiko Taverna by the fabulous sandy beach at Avithos.

Enetiko is a well established taverna having been the first one to open in the area 11 years ago. It is frequented by the locals in the summer months and attracts a lot of repeat guests each year. The taverna is family owned and run.

The taverna is in a pretty setting surrounded by flowers and banana trees and provides a cool relief from the sun-drenched sandy stretches of Avithos. Wonderful sea views from the taverna stretch out to the small island of Dias opposite.

The menu offers a wide selection of hot and cold starters and meze plates as well as a good selection of Greek and Kefalonian cuisine.

Blue Flag beach

Avithos is a long sandy beach facing the small island of Dias, where in antiquity there was an altar of Zeus. Now you can see the tiny white chapel of the Panayia Vlahernon, with many steps carved in the rock leading up from the jetty. The water here is crystal clear and the beach is annually awarded a Blue Flag.

The sea at Avithos is shallow and the beach is generally uncrowded, making it a safe haven for children. Sunbeds and beach umbrellas are available for hire.

At the very far end of the beach to the left, is a more rocky area giving some privacy from the rest of the sandy beach and this tends to attract those wishing to get closer to nature. Turtles love sandy beaches like Avithos, so please follow the turtle code.

The south facing beach is protected by sloping sandstone cliffs and extends 400 metres to the east towards a headland. Towards the west and past an outcrop of rocks there are a further two sheltered bays with massive rocks lying in the seas - locally known as Megalipetra beach.

The sea food selection is impressive with choice of prawns, octopus, squid, anchovies, sardines, whitebait, red mullet, sea bream, mackerel, sword fish, red snapper or 'fish catch of the day'. If you are unsure which to chose then order the Fishermen's Platter with enough for two people. This is centred around a large grilled sea bream or bass surrounded by large prawns and a variety of small deep fried fish and kalamari set on a bed of salad.

For vegetarians there are plenty of dishes prepared from home-grown produce such as courgette balls, aubergines imam, fried peppers with cheese, strapatsada (tomato egg and cheese dish), tiroboukies (cheese balls) and do try the vegetarian mousaka. Traditional Greek vegetarian dishes include stuffed tomatoes and briam (baked vegetable dish).
Kefalonian specialities include local meat pie, rabbit stew, cockerel in wine and codfish with garlic and potatoe sauce.

Traditional Greek cuisine includes roast chicken in lemon sauce, beef giouvetsi, stifado and meatballs in tomatoe sauce.

From the grill there are pork and beef steaks, pork, beef and chicken fillets as well as grilled sausages, spare ribs and chicken souvlaki

If your children just want a hamburger, spaghetti and chips - these are also on the menu!
(Real chips here - not the frozen variety)
The taverna offers a selection of local wines as well as their own chilled house wine which is a light slightly dry tsaousi and robolla mix.
