Assos is a small village which nestles around the harbour of its own peninsula. The imposing crumbling remains of a Venetian castle still standing protectively at the tip of the peninsula comlete one of the most picturesque places on the whole of Kefalonia island.
The town beach is a pebble's thow from the apartments and there is another small, shaded, pebbly cove nearby.
Boats can be hired locally to explore the secluded coves in the area which are inaccessible by car. There are sea caves in this area which provide shelter for the critically endangered species of monk seal 'monachus monachus' and visitors are asked to explore the coves but not the caves.
Assos will suit those seeking a peaceful retreat who will enjoy the spectacular scenery and the flora and fauna of the area as well as the ambience provided by the tavernas and cafes surrounding the picturesque harbour in Assos.
For those with a hire car, in less than half an hour's drive you will reach the village of Fiscardo to the north of Assos or Myrtos beach to the south.
