DIANA Taverna has re-opened in Argostoli with a whole new concept of service. The taverna has 'moved' along the harbour front in Argostoli, to its key position near the Lixouri ferry. Diners can watch the local ferry sail to and fro, which is a romantic sight in the evening, when it is lit up like a 'birthday cake'. DIANA taverna has had more than a face-lift - it has a brand new building, tastefully fitted and furnished and with soft lighting throughout.
While Stavros continues to produce his succulent charcoal-grilled selection of pork and beef dishes, taverna DIANA has a new chef! Kostas, the chef, moved from the capital of Greece to the capital of Kefalonia. He has previously worked in Athens for 12 years at the Hotel Titania, where he is famous in the city's circle. After spending a lifetime around the world he brings his expertise to DIANA taverna, where he offers a choice of International and Greek cuisine. DIANA taverna specialises in mezes and there is a huge choice with an Eastern Mediterranean flavour. The DIANA traditions continue with Kefalonian meat pie, moussaka and stifado and with Kostas' flair you will delight in the Steak Wellington, Escalope Pericordin, Pork loin with fresh mango sauce, shrimp stuffed avocado, fillet steak with Vienese sauce...
Regular musicians at Diana taverna are Gerassimos from Svoronata and Yiorgos from Karavados. They sing and play guitar and bouzouki for group bookings and special occasions at Diana's.
What is in a name? Over 20 years ago when the taverna opened further along the harbour in Argostoli, somebody suggested the name DIANA from the Greek word Thiana which is used to describe something perfect, or accurate, like a dart flying to its mark. The tourists thought that the owner was called Diana so they gaily called out 'Hello, Diana'.
(Diana was also the name of a famous local fizzy orange juice.) The owner Yiota brought out a tray of orange juice and the tourists wanted Ouzo. 'Ouzo with orange juice?' asked Diana, surprised. She never understood these crazy tourists. The tourists thought Diana was great - she always brought them refreshing orange juice whenever they said 'Hello Diana' even if they were passing by!
DIANA taverna is a great place for a light harbour side lunch or a romantic evening meal. The locals tend to take over half the taverna when they get together and want music and dancing. DIANA taverna caters for every occasion from Baptism to Wedding Receptions.
