KATS stands for Kefalonia Animal Trust and the sanctury at Menegata near Lakythra has cats, dogs, donkeys, tortoises and Gertie the Goat. For photos of animals in KATS care follow this link
www.kefalonia-animal-trust.org/html/animalslist.html
For information and contact details please see their website
www.kefalonia-animal-trust.org
KATS is a hard-working hands on charity and with anything up to a 100 animals at any one time, you are asked to please make an appointment if you are planning a visit and the best way to do this is to communicate by email. So with a little planning, a trip to the KATS Sanctury makes a very pleasant and interesting excursion.
There is no entry fee to the Sanctury but donations are happily accepted. For anyone moving to Kefalonia there are animals looking for homes and visitors may also sponsor one of the animals if they wish.

Back to Top of Page How to Get to the Sanctury

 - Kefalonia Animal Trust Animal Sanctury - Interesting Places on Kefalonia - Kefalonia Travel Guide
Starting from Argostoli, head out of town towards Lassi, past the Shell station on your right. Just before the bend that would take you down into Lassi, you will see a turning on the left with a signpost for the Avin petrol station. Immediately after this the road forks.
Take the left fork up the hill (sign-posted Spillia) and follow the road for about 5 Km. On your right you will pass Mouikis Holiday Village and, shortly after, the road splits into a brief one-way system down into Lakithra. As you come down the hill you will be able to see out across Svoronata and Minies to the airport. On a clear day you can also see the neighbouring island of Zakynthos.
At the bottom of the hill the two halves of the road join up again outside Byrons Pizzaria on your right. Facing you on the right is a large sign for Byron's Rock. You are now in Lakithra. Carry on a little further and take the first turning on the left (almost doubling back on yourself.
Follow the road past a church on your right and just keep going until you come to another church on your left. At this point you will come to a brief stretch of unmade road. Follow it until you come to a new concrete road on your right. Follow the road to the bottom of the hill - it leads straight to Villa Jomar which is the new KATS headquarters.
