Homer's island of Asteris, lies between the North East coast of Kefalonia and the island of Ithaca. Was it here that Penelope's suitors laid in wait to attack Telemachus, the son of Odysseus?

This island is known by many names - Deskalion, Doulichion and Dulichium - an Ionian Island which participated in the Trojan war under the leadership of Megas - according to Homer.
This homeric island belongs to the Echinades Islands complex which, in turn, belongs to the municipality of Ithaka.
This is a tiny island with a small church. There are many mythological mysteries which surround this island of 'Deskalion' or 'Asterias'.

Homer described the home of his hero Odysseus:
"I dwell in shining Ithaca. There is a mountain there,
high Neriton, covered in forests. Many islands
lie around it, very close to each other,
Doulichion, Same, and wooded Zacynthos--
but low-lying Ithaca is farthest out to sea,
towards the sunset, and the others are apart, towards the dawn and sun. It is rough, but it raises good men."
