Looking for information on which resort to stay in Lefkas, we like a village feel resort with lovely tavernas on beach front & definitely don't like a loud busy resort any ideas please???

Firstly, great choice Lefkada/Lefkas is a brilliant island and totally unspoiled by mass tourism. Can suggest Lygia on the east coast, a few miles south of the main town. It is a small fishing port with some very nice tavernas, a couple of "supermarkets", a gorgeous bakery, and a very friendly bar, we have seen dolphins in the channel while sitting at a taverna. Its a really friendly place on our second visit a couple of the taverna owners called out to us by name when we wandered past. Have been a couple of times happy to give more info if needed. Cosmos/Monarch operate packages to apartments in the village or if you are going independent I can put you in touch with someone reliable and reasonable for accomodation, just p.m. me.  There is also Agios Nikitas which is a bit more touristic but still quiet. Has a nice but fairly busy beach.
Nidri is quite developed but not to the scale of places like Kavos or Laganas, its more of a Kassiopi sort of place with beautiful views to the bay and small islands and easy access to Meganisi. Can be quite busy though as it is the place where boat trips board. Vasiliki attracts younger windsurfer types and sailors and is very windy! Has many good places to eat. Sivota (not to be confused with the one on the mainland) is really attractive but lack beaches. Lefkas is a beautiful island to explore, one of our favorites, the south western tip has some amazing cliffs and beaches. There are pics in my gallery that may help. Hope you decide to go, its a well kept secret.

Hi Rocdoc - As you know we are deserting Paxos in 2014 after 8 years for a new Island and Lefkas is the final choice after getting a super early deal on a villa. Having booked we have seen some not so good reviews on the villa but hope that Simply have taken note. Not had a bad deal from them in the past.
Anyway, we will be staying up in Lazarata. I believe there may be one restaurant in the village which would be good otherwise a drive to Ag Nikitas maybe or somewhere else??
As usual will need to have a boat for a few days. Would best bet be Nidri although that looks like a fair drive away.

I dont think you will be disappointed its a lovely island, quite cosmopolitan but still Greek and the interior is beautiful.  Closest for boat hire would be Lefkas town, only about 5 miles away, Nidri is about 15 so not that far really, just follow the road through Karya and you'll get there. For tavernas Ag Nik has plenty of choice  as does Lefkas town, the Seven Islands has a great reputation there. If you venture further down the east coast to Lygia there are some very good fish tavernas, O'zouros and the Seven Islands in Lygia (yes confusing) were our favorites. there are lots of little islands to explore in the Nidri area such as Skorpios and Meganisi with tiny beaches in little bays and lovely tavernas.

Thank you Rocdoc - Looking forward to little Islands with a boat and new places to eat.
Sorry, don't do facebook. I cannot!!
If not Ag Nik then maybe a BBQ at the villa. Not done that anywhere but at home. No I lie. We were in a house in the Pyrenes at the top of a valley. Never saw the sun. Miles from anywhere. Lamb chops on the BBQ good. Apart from the drive down and back in the rag top, one to forget.

Hello!

Thinking of trying Lefkas/Lefkada next year. I have read the posts, but can someone suggest where the quietest resort is please? We don't want to be totally isolated, but we like the simple Greek way of life. A few tavernas, not bothered with bars or ATM's and preferably by the sea. We will have a car so getting there won't be a problem (as long as it doesn't involve dirt tracks)!

Any suggestions will be truly appreciated.

Thank you!

This probably won't work if you want a beach, but take a look at Sivota (on the southern coast - but don't get confused with the mainland version!).

Although very popular with yachts (it's an almost perfect anchorage as it's safe from all wind directions and is only accessable by a narrow channel) it is still relatively quiet and has plenty of tavernas around the harbour.

Hi Wazzer, we usually stay in Lygia, a small beach with a little fishing harbour and 5 or 6 tavernas mostly good. One bar which is also very good.

We were on Lefkada a few weeks ago. Got the bus into Lefkada Town and down the coast to Nidri. There were some lovely villages on the way. Nidri is quite busy and has a harbour with lots of activity, wall to wall restaurants, and lots of boats. There are lots of excursions and the ferry over to Megannisi.

The main street runs parallel with the harbour and has many cafes, and tavernas. We stayed overnight in Nidri on the main street and it wasn't very noisy.

We travelled down to Vassiliki but the road goes over the mountain so didn't see many coastal villages. Vassiliki looks great and would have liked to spend more time there but we had a ferry to catch!
another Mythos? well, just to be sociable!

We too are thinking of going to Lefkas, having looked at so many islands..
We are breaking away (not far) from Corfu for a change and are struggling to find somewhere that matches up to our beloved Agios Gordios. We have teenage daughters and are travelling in August. They come along to the beach and restaurants with us, so they're not needing entertainment, but a nice bar for an early evening drink would be good. We don't like it too busy or crowded, especially on the beach. We will probably be hiring a car for the fortnight so can get about, although wouldn't want to have to drive in the evenings to restaurants. Any ideas on resorts please? We've been looking at Nidri but can't find suitable accommodation, Ag Nik looks lovely but beach is too busy in August..but we could always drive somewhere else in the day?.. HELP!! Thanks!

We stayed in Lygia it has 5 or 6 good tavernas and a fantastic music bar, plus cafes, a gyros taverna and a good patisserie. It has a lovely waterfront which overlooks the strait between the island and the mainland. It also has a nice but small beach which does not get too busy. it is on the main road to town and  has easy access to both the Lefkas town and Nidri.
Nidri is the busiest resort on the island more akin to Kasiopi on Corfu, lots of tavernas and bars.
Vassiliki is a mecca for sail boarding and sailing, has a slightly hippie feel to it and is a younger resort but in a nice way. Its a place for enthusiasts and is not at all roudy. Loads of good tavernas and good music bars.
Ag Nik is a very pretty resort but also very busy and at peak times the beach is packed. There are lovely beaches at Mylos and Kathisma just south of Ag Nik. The jewell in the crown is Porto Katsiki which is breathtaking but it can get busy at peak times.
Sivota on Lefkada is also very pretty, low key and a popular stop with the sailing set although there is plenty of accommodation there * do not confuse it with the Sivota on the mainland* there is a small beach there plus good tavernas and a few bars.
Another option might be Meganissi just across the water from Lefkada, it is much quieter and very traditional, it has some gorgeous coves and beaches and superb tavernas. Its very small but incredibly pretty and has good access to the main island.
Whichever you choose I'm sure you will want to return, its a well kept secret and has loads to offer.

its nice to be important but its more important to be nice
