I imagine that all the tavernas and shops will be getting ready for the beginning of May seasonal kick off.
Anyone going down to the village soon to see what activity there is? I was also wondering how the road down has held up after the winter rain? There didn't seem too many pot holes last year. Any bits of news would be welcome.

Hi Colin

We will be there this weekend (Saturday 'till Tuesday); well, up in Porta, anyway. No doubt we will pop down for a look-see at some point.

Will let you know how things are progressing.

We were having a coffee with Kostas from Kaparelli this morning and he informed us that both Galini and Fagapotion were up and running now, he plans to open Kaparelli somewhere around the 25/26th, he's not sure yet.

Cheers guys. Good man Kostas, he never seems to change from when we first went several years ago. Always offers a coffee if he sees you. I guess Kochilli will be the last open, usually is, but has my favourite view from the balcony there.

I just knew that you would beat me to it!

Maybe we'll bump into you over the weekend.

I meant to comment on this earlier (or at least, the bit about the potholes). We first discovered Stephanos in 1985; the road down from Sinies was just a dirt track at that time and the potholes were big enough to hide the (very small) car in.

How times have changed!

Coo, I'd forgotten that track Martyn, on about our third visit to SS, good old Corfu Villas decided to save a few bob and send us down in a Coach from the airport, I complained to the airport rep who replied that the driver knew what he was doing.
Cor Blimmy!! He didn't half swear at the overhanging branches and the impossible hairpin bend.
Needless to say we were collected in a taxi on our return.
See you soon.

He always does - just needs a firm hand! Doesn't try too hard once he knows you know your own mind. Lovely bloke too, it's just his way.

After a drive into Corfu Town, we decided to return via the coast road to see if anywhere was up and doing.
Well other than a few places open along the way, not much.
Each village and town had a few places open, so early visitors won't starve.
Agni bay was still closed with plenty of wet paint.
On then to San Stephanos, to Gallini for a late lunch.
Although the sun was shining, nice and warm, we ate inside as it was blowing a hooly into the bay, and all the loose bits and bobs outside were being put somewhere safe.
Nothing to do with anything really, our chimney was repaired yesterday, so we have a fire tonight, at last we can get warm, electric fires just don't do it the way a good old wood burner does.

Can't go wrong with the food at Gallini, or any of the others actually, but the inside there can be nice and toasty while the weather outside is lets say somewhat poor. You wont need to be collecting logs for your burner much now hopefully as the weather starts to warm up. I bet Gallini have been sprucing up during pre season, Vangellis is usually painting or putting up something new.

Quick update to openings.
Kostas at Kaparelli told us this morning he will open on Saturday 25th.
Kerasia Taverna will not open until May 1st.
We spent a pleasant day in the sunshine, a mooch around San Stephanos with a coffee at Gallini, then over to Kerasia with our picknick in the sun.
Now back to the gardening.

Thanks for that information Bob. Nice to hear things are starting to move. Hope you enjoy your gardening, we have been doing the same here in South Wales, while the good weather lasts (changes Friday to cloudy and showers). Planting Foxgloves, Lupins and Delphiniums for early summer colour. We don't go till September but I am imagining your coffee in the spring sunshine - nice.

We ate in Gallini last night, will be in Kapareli Saturday night for opening.
Always take a little pressy on these occasions. Look forward to seeing the new chef for this year.
Amalea's tourist shop is open a few hours, the Wave Bar is having a big opening occasion this evening, Roula and Danni were busy sorting out their stock when we were down there yesterday.

No, too early for them, Eucaliptus still has builders in, as has Damianos.
The beach is still in a state, hardly any of the hire boats are in the water yet.
By the way, yet another boat hire company. Sotiris, the son of Stephanos Boats, has arrived.
